e-Electric General Discussion > Kyosho EP - Brushless ??

I've got a Kyosho EP in a Hughes 500 body kit and have been flying it for over 2 years now - on the second 'brushed' motor.

I want to convert it to Brushless, but have only experience (all bad!) with Ikarus products.

Anyone got any suggestions as to the best combination, here are the important bits :

Duration more important over Performance.
Must operate with 7 cell packs.
Preferably give me more flying time than the present (4 minutes)
Preferably available through the UK (bad experience added to dealing with a foreign country has left a pretty bad taste!!).

Any help most gratefully received.
Cheers
Richard.

P.S. So far, I have been 'steered' down the line of Hacker BL, and Shultz ESC.

kyosho EP Concept brushless advice

Hi:
For about 1.5 years, I've been using a brushless motor.
I am using a Hacker B40-8L in my Kyosho EP Concept.
My flying weight is 1250 grams with a 7 cell 2400 mAH pack.
No body.
I get about 7~9 minutes of flying time.
7 minutes with a semi-symmetrical blade and about 9
minutes with a washout blade. I am using JRC wood blades from
Japan. They are worth the hassle as they offer about 1.5 minutes more
flying time than the stock Kyosho foam blades. Plus they are alot tougher and easier to repair.

Like you I was looking for duration, so I typically use the washout blades. My longest flight was about 9minutes and 50 seconds.
I typically use a 15 tooth pinion. If I use the 14thooth pinion it is obviously less powerful, but it offers about 30 seconds more time, the 16 tooth
pinion is very powerful, but about a minutes less flight time.

Hope this helps.

I also use a Kontronik ESC, I can't remember the model number.
But I do remember that it did not have a BEC.

Hi Peter,

Got the setup a couple of weeks ago now, went to an English supplier (Gordon Tarling) who specialises in the leccy stuff and he recommended the Hacker / Shultz combination so I went ahead.

I got the brand new motor, the C40 and the Shultz 45He controller which I've been playing with - lots of different settings giving all sorts of flying characteristics (just about stopped all the glitching now though ).

Haven't really managed to get a proper 'timed' flight yet as most of the time is spent sorting out minor problems - this model has been sat on the shelf for a good while and I've not yet managed to shift all that dust!

Do you have a contact where I can purchase some of those washout blades? I do have the woodies (could never get those plastic things to track!) but the're not the Kyosho ones, I'm pretty sure they are Kalt Whisper ones cut down to the size the foamies were.
Don't have any different pinions to try either - have you any idea of the headspeed you are running to get those durations?

I've setup the speed regulator on the ESC which is my first taste of any sort of Govenor (I love this feature on the Future controller ) and will carry on trying to improve the flight characteristics offered with the new power train.

Cheers
Richard.

don't know my headspeed

Sorry I dont have a tach, so I don't know my head speed.
The contact for the JRC wooden blades is a store in
Tokyo, they have a url:
http://www.rc-asami.co.jp/

You can send them email to
info@rc-asami.co.jp

The blades are :

☆JRCのウッドローター各種入荷
名称 型番 価格
EP・CONSEPT 540 3D 対称型 JC54001 ¥2.900
EP・CONSEPT 540 JC54002 ¥2.900
EP・CONSEPT 540W WASH-OUT JC54204 ¥3.000

If you can't read Japanese characters, the first blade
is a symmetrical blade,
the second is the semi-symmetrical blade and the last one
is the washout.
The actual prices are about 20% less than the listed prices, which
are respectively 2900, 2900 and 3000 yen.

3000 yen works out about 」16.50 - cheaper than a set of foamies in this country!

Wonder how much it will cost for the shipping?

E-Mail sent

Cheers for the info
Richard.

Hi:
Before you get all excited, I don't know if Asami RC
exports ! I have never mail order to them. I always
went there in person while on trips to Japan. I don't
know so it is best that you send them an email.
