Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > How to speed up Tiger cyclic?

I added one brown spacer to the short legs of the swashplate and use the outer hole on the washout arms. Whats my next move for further increasing the flip and roll rate? I still have headspeed I can add. I was wondering about a set of paddles with holes closer to the centerline like the Pantera offers. I'll look to see if there is room to put spacers on the hiller bar too. I wonder too, how far I can go before the dampeners will become an issue?

Marty,

Since you've received no responses I'll take a stab at this.

Basically, you're on the right track. FYI, we make a swashball kit PDR0069 expressly for this job (order two, one for the Swashplate AUD0039 and one for the Hiller Arms AUD0024). Plus, you can always add Pantera Washout Arms AUD1015-2, which are longer and have an extra hole for more throw. For that matter, the Pantera Seesw Arms AUD0055-2 have additional holes inboard of the stockers, which deliver greater throw at the grips as well. Naturally, harder dampers AUD0017-3 will help as will the 3D Paddles PDR0057, which we also offer. However, remember, you must also use the 3D Flybar PDR0066 with those paddles because it's the appropriate length. And of course, more head speed, as you've astutely noted.

My 2¢

Thanks for the reply John,

Here's where I am on your list of suggestions. I already had the silver spacers on the two short legs of the swashplate making them as long as the long legs of the swash. I'm sure I have another set from one of the Pantera's I can put on the Hiller arm or I have the brown ones too but I cant put them on without longer washout arms because there is no clearance for the pushrod ends at the hiller bar now. The longer arm will straighten up the angle for the pushrod and should provide clearance at least for the brown spacers.
I had been wanting to try the 3mm Raptor 50 flybar and white paddles so tonight I went ahead and swapped them in. Being 10 minutes from the flying field, I ran down and test flew them. Much better! Tighter loops and faster roll rate. My rolls to the left are still massive ugly barrel rolls but to the right it's a beautiful almost axial roll.
Anyway, looks like I'm going to want to try the Pantera washout arms (longer), the Pantera seesaw arms (shorter) and harder dampers. In the meantime, I really like how the Tiger is coming alive. Oh, along with all these changes, I 'll mention that my Tiger head is flipped so the connections for the main blade grips lead the grips rather than trail. This is said to make the head more responsive. I never flew it the stock way so I dont know.

You have an original Tiger, i.e. the spindle shaft is 5mm vs. 6mm like in the MkII? Easy to verify withot disassembly, the 5mmunit has nylon locking nuts on the ends. If that's the case, the PDR0071 urethane dampers are the ticket. Yes, leading edge control is the way to go.

Marty, Get a Pantera head less the main shaft and you will be golden. The Pantera shaft will not fit your Tiger, I think. It is a bolt hole thing. Tell me if im wrong. Everything else will fit and ready to rock. Nice to know you have the grip flip installed.

Hi John,

I hope I don't have an original Tiger, it's supposed to be a mk2. I bought it last Xmas when I bought the first Pantera directly from you. The Raptor flybar and paddles made a ton of difference. I'm going to order the other pieces today if I get a chance. I'm having a ball.

Hi ya Bill,

I did the head flip back when I initially assembled the Tiger months ago. I'm trying to use as much Tiger stuff as I can so I'm not going to swap in a Pantera head at this time. I'm deliberately NOT using the metal swash and trying to use the kit as close to the original $210 as possible just to see how it does. I'm surprising myself how well its doing and having a ball. I think all thats left to do is order the hard dampers and the Pantera seesaw and washout arms. Beyond that I'll go to some faster servos but it has already woken up and I couldnt possibly be having more fun than I am right now. I love this hobby!

Servos make a HUGE difference too. Which ones you running?

Check your cyclic pitch, keep it around 7*. You can get more but you have to be good on collective so you dont bog motor. The more you have the quicker it will be...but^^^

The servos in my Tiger are analog, 76 in/oz at .17. I'm going to swap them out to 9252's only after I'm finished with the head. I'm really enjoying this heli right now.

I mentioned the paddles and longer flybar are already in place. I'm using the Raptor 50 stainless steel flybar and white paddles. It is much improved. I can of course still go to the green ones. Did you change your flybar length? Mine is longer than stock now.

Ok, I have installed the hard dampers. They are YELLOW so if anyone else is thinking about the hard dampers or thought they were already running them, the 88 durometer, the "hard" dampers are solid YELLOW in color. Anyway, per John's recommendation I also bought the Pantera seesaw and washout arms for my Tiger. John, are you sure about this? I installed the Pantera seesaw arms but had to use the outer hole just to clear things and that doesnt seem any shorter than what I had. The arms are thicker and stiffer though so at least I have that. I didnt install the washout arms though because they are identical in appearance and dimensions to the ones John just sent me. AUD1015. Anyway, I guess I have now done everything I can to speed up the Tiger for 3D except more headspeed.

The AUD1015-2 washout arms have three holes instead of two and are longer by one hole. use the outer hole.

The AUD0055-2 seesaw arms have three holes instead of one, and as you've noted is beefier. Go to the middle hole on the seesaw arms.
