Aerobatic FAI F3C Contest > Need some blades

My first contest heli and I need to order some main/tail blades and could use some recommendations.

Hirobo Freya Evo
7.9 gearing
FFZIII stock head
YS91SR
Hatori SB19FH

I'd be flying Class 1

I'm thinking of getting the 720 F3C Rotortechs and 95mm tail blades. Could it handle these?

Blades I already have...
Radix 690
Thunder Tiger 680's (half black/white)
95mm radix tail blades

The 720's are too long for the standard boom legnth on the FFZ-III head. The max you should use is 690's. Try the SAB, the Hirobo 680's, the TG's, maybe curtis will have the FAI blades available soon.

According to MRC, they're not. Taken from the Evo 90 page on MRC's website:

I've flown tail blade overlap for years, but the overlap with 720's on an FFZ/SSZIII head is a bit too much for my comfort. Bounce an auto pretty good, and I can pretty well bet you you'll be buying tail blades or worse. 710/95's are close; 720/95's are really overlapping.

Shawn, if I thought I could safely run 720's on my models, I wouldn't have offered the set for sale to you.

Hi,
I have the Hirobo 0414-416 WC 680mm rotor blade which is more suitable for the Freya. I used to fly this combination.
Hovering is rock solid and plenty of lift during autorotation due to it's washout design. This is an outstanding blade but kind of rare.

If you are interested, I can let you have it for a good price.

Is that good price open to every one?

If you like them, why sell them???

That stuff said, here are some suggestions:

1. I know there is at least one set of leftover RT700's that can be had from a guy here on RR. Do a post in the WTB section. I bought three of the last sets of these blades available anywhere this winter.

2. SAB has a new sym. 700 mm (or was it 680mm?)FAI blade that I've heard flies pretty well. Motors and Rotors in the UK can supply these, as can Cyberheli.

3. KSJ has the fiberglass version of the version carbon blade that Ito used to win the Nats. You'll need to get them from Japan. Opinions vary on how well this blade flies. They just a bit over $100 a set, though. You don't want to know how much the carbon ones cost.

4. I would be inclined to avoid any leftover Radix FAI blades. Unless you REALLY tweak the pitch curve and REALLY learn how they behave in the wind, they can get pretty jumpy when the wind gets up.

5. The Hirobo glass and carbon blades have a washout airfoil. The glass blades are affordable. The carbon ones are, well, "pricey".

I knew things were going to smoothly. Only thing I need yet is the blades. I put wanted ad for the rt700's.

Yapjy, I'd be interested in hearing what you want for your hirobo blades.

MRC supposed to be at Toledo this weekend. I'll stop in and talk to them for a while.

Rapidity, I have PM you. I'm sure MRC at Toledo will recommend the WC blades (0414-416).

F3CWNB, the reason is that I no longer fly Hirobo

I thought it was because you're such an outstanding individual, and I have such a sunny personality.

Point taken. I had wondered if there might be an issue in spite of what MRC said. Info filed away for future reference.
