I told you so

Well looks like I was right at the beginning, after all. That is, except for the JR12X MV...we really don't know until it get's released.

You should make the following preflight check before EVERY flight:

1. switch on the radio (Tx).
2. check the Tx screen to varify correct model selection.
3. switch on the Rx.
4. Varify all servos moving correctly.

This simple preflight has the potential of saving many models from crashing, since many people dont do it and end up.. well.. in the ground sometimes.

Hey no problem nofear... this is exactly the sort of information we need to know about and clarify as the only way we can find out about problems like this is by sharing our experiences.

I3DM..I agree 100% with what your saying..BUT as I noted earlier, it could well be the club idiot thats beside you about to do an un-planned Chaos Launch...

Model Match is a safety feature that eradicates this problem and not only saves models but potentially saves injury to themselves and others around them.

Well I might not always be right, but I'm never wrong.

Okay Barney, I take back my somewhat sarcastic remark.

The technology employed by Spectrum would allow them to transmit a unique code for each model. What makes the transmission (wideband) spread spectrum is the special code they use to modulate the actual data with. In that code could be a model identification sequence that the receiver would have been given during the bind process.

The Futaba system being frequency hoping spread spectrum will want to keep the amount of data transmitted down to a minimum but presumably they could of sent additional data that the receiver could store and identify with. This would however add to latency.

In all my years of flying, I've seen many people start with the throttle up, and not once did it cause anything other than a burned clutch.

So does a solid radio link. Crashes in competition in NV with Spectrum fliers due to the inferior connection was a lot more dangerous than a lack of model match on the FASST system. With model match, you have complete control over the safety by doing a pre-flight. With Spectrum, you take off and hope you don't have a lock-out if you fly in a "noisy" field. But look on the bright side, with Spectrum, when your model locks out and crashes, you know EXACTLY which model it was, and you can use your free receiver to help pay for the repair costs and any damages you caused....

rdalcanto, Model Match will not effect the reliability of either system..

Maybe its not there for the reason Andy from Sandy mentions (adversly effecting latency?)I myself suspect SpeKtrum may have it patented.

I'm sure they do have a patent. I'm saying between the two choices, Spectrum with Model Match, or FASST without - I'll take the increased reliability of FASST any day. Nothing upsets me more than loosing a model for reasons other than my thumbs. Someone else had brought up that Futaba used to have a startup screen on an older radio that made you choose the model everytime. Perhaps they could add that with a software update, and allow pilots who want that feature, to enable it.
