Total Tail loss?

So, was it the pins in the shafts that let go, walked out??

Or was it your gyro-servo setup? Maybe the faulty tailhub?

Were you able to hit hold and come down autorotating??

I crashed my R90 because I did not do the heatshrink over the pin mod on the shafts. MY bad for not reading up on it until after the crash.

your right on the money bosshoss,it was the little pushpin on the tailgear shaft.i am going to put a small nut and bolt through them both or heatshrink them....not much damage but my ego....
tally
boom, main shaft, spindle, blade grip 1, 710mm blades only 4 flights on me others.flybar,1 ball linknot that bad...
when i lost the tail it came down on its side hard and the blades exploded on impact.i had no time to auto i was only about 10ft up an it span like crazy...it was only my forth flight on the new bird also.here a pic on were that pin came out.may this also be a lesson to others on these pins..

Its the blades, its the blades... that's where the money is in most crashes. Similar thing happened when I lost a tail servo on my Knight 50- brand new first flight SAB's, ouch.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Tail pin crash

My Pin-walk-out crash was $390 dollars.

25 feet up , too stunned to auto. My Bad. I planted it when it was going for the parking lot.

Main shaft
Spindle,
tail rotor shaft
1 grip
3 links
1 rod
fan case
boom
torque tube
1 tail grip
710 blades
landing gear
rear frames
tank grommets
seesaw
flybar
seesaw bearings
thrust bearings
clutch liner
clutch
tail fin
I fixed (read cobbled) the CF base plate.
I never did replace the awesome FG canopy, just patched it.
oh....
and 1 little %##$@&!@ pin!!!

no electronics

I heat shrunk ALL of the pins front and rear. Dirty Buggers...as you Brits say....Pure Buggery.

The last pic is the first pile of broken parts, I found more and more as I re-assembled!!

Check it ALL Nelly, if any of the ballink screws are bent it is almost impossible to tell unless you disassemble. Complete and total disassembly are a check of everything....everything.

I bet more than a hundred of these R90's have crashed because of the pin walk-out. I did not assemble mine, or check it when I bought it. My bad.

This is one failure that won't happen to me again.

Yep it doesn't look too bad, but I know about the Blades!!!! I lost the tail on my gasser the other day and basically trashed the "crashkit" type of items, but the 710mm blades is what hurts the most..
Since you have the "new" removed from the heli.....it should fly much better when you get it back together...

man that looked painfull..and a nice bill also, alittle bit more and you could have bought a new airframe, but all aside this is caused by that stupid little %*@@x~## pushpin.......i got all my crash bits today so i am going to build the bird back up and giving her a new make over with the 3d decals blue paddles etc..hope you fix up soon...happy flyin regards helinelly

Nelly,

I was stunned and P#$$%^ off. I thought it was me who hit the rate/gyro switch that sent it spinning, but upon post-mortem there was the marks of the pin spinning out and it was missing.

Here is the rub, I had her together in one week's time. But, everytime I got close, I found more bent stuff.

Change that tail rotor hub to PV0499 straight away. The stock one is a tail explosion waiting to happen. There is a video of one of the old ones exploding on Youtube somewhere.

Even my flybar cage rods were tweaked. I had spares of those.

I found two bent link screws on the swash.

Check it all ...that is the best advice I can give.

I love my R90, I have since flipped the tail to the left and worked out the linkage and offset. I want a scale look for my MD500 body.

Everytime I see a TT MD500 body on a R90 I cringe, becasue the tail is on the right, and that just is not right. I laugh at the award videos that show a TT MD500 with the t-rotor on the right, and the guy is getting an award....the judges must be blind. LOL.

Good luck on the build, and if you are a novice at setting one up, from the ground up, don't hesitate to ask questions here.

I lost my 90SE the same way. The kicker that got me was I just switched from Futaba 9c to JR 9303 TX. The throttle hold and Rudder D/R switches are opposite each other between the 2 radios. When I when for the throttle hold after losing the tail my muscle memory went for the hold switch which turned out to be the rudder D/R on the 9303. By the time I got throttle hold on it was too late.

I like the fix you made. I will do something similar.

It has enough authority for me to fly in a sport fashion.

The offset is not quite right, I need to adjust/modify the tail pitch slider and links to get it exactly right.

By flipping the grips I got some, but not all of it back. So, I am missing a little throw in left piro direction.

As far as holding the tail, no problem, FFF, sport flying, it is fine. The rear blade comes up into the wash , instead of the front blade.

As soon as I got it mechanically correct, rate mode centered, the gain setting ended up being the same as normal rotation.

It will look correct once the MD500 fuse is on it. Scale correct.
