The Mustang went from 1,150-horse power Allison engines to the Packard built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine that had 1,590 hp. The Thunderbolt started out with a 2,000 hp Pratt & Whitney engine, and ended up with 2,800 war emergency hp with water injection. That's close to twice the power.

So if it was good enough for a warbird why would it not be a good Idea for a car engine .
Just thinking .

If water is everywhere and free why can't I water my lawn on certain days?

you can water everyday if you like...just not with the one going through your water meter.

You are mistaken. Water injection is not the same as HHO injection. Water injection is used to prevent engine failure or damage. HHO injection is used for crack-pot schemes.

Not sure about that but .

In the past people used water injection to save on fuel cost as the water gave more power to the burn by using the heat to turn the water vapor to steam creating more expansion of the gases In the cylinder resulting In more power. It also helped to clean the carbon out of the internals ,Valves etc which was a good thing as the maintenance went down
Just have to go back In history a bit .

The net result is that the combustion process happens slower, preventing the destructive supersonic shockwave characteristic of detonation.

Read all about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_injection_(engines)

Hot dam I love the internet.

I'm sure the water turns to steam and expands like you said but its probably not going to expand as much as the fuel would if allowed to reach its "dry" combustion temperature. That is, your not increasing the THERMAL efficiency your just getting more power from the engine. I guess you could say your increasing the engines specific power.
