Well I finally got around to doing this. Still not finished as I have to do a little cleanup work and drill out the support holes. It's a little off in the pics as it's sitting slightly off-kilter on the rear mounting posts.

First tests looked as promising as some had suggested. To get the canopy on I had to remove the receiver tray's ears. There is now about 5mm clearance each side at the closest point. I think I'll put a bit of padding on the sides just in case.

I had to cut the bottom of the canopy off to clear the landing gear. Unfortunately I went about 10mm too deep. :'( I'm going to even the bottom cut up a little, and cut a slight curve through the little rectangular protrusion in the corner of the cut. I don't think I'll do anything else apart from paint it.

I had to take 5mm off each of the rear canopy struts. I think I'll need to take a further 5mm from both the front and the back canopy struts to account for the canopy grommets. The front struts are bang up against the inside of the canopy. They aren't stressing but they are snug. Still plenty of room for the main gear (about 8mm each side) and control links.

The MP2 fit without having to make any cuts at all. I just turned the header/gasket/thingummyjig around to raise the lay of the pipe.

So you don't have to buy those fugly milly canopies after all.

What a great idea !
Are you sure there is room for the cyclic servos?
It looks tight.

I'm a model heli pilot, If you see me run please try to keep up!

Just enough for the cyclics, there's a little leeway where to mount the forward grommets, so it's not that bad. I'd say you can lift the canopy as much as 10mm higher if needed. The internal shot was just for checking the position of the cutout. The canopy sits much higher at the front than it appears to in that photo.

Muffler does need a little cutting, I borked something with the alignment. I'll be able to get away with a small notch at the bottom of the indent.

You also need to mount the throttle servo inside the frame to give clearance for the horn and linkage. I'm going to use a low profile servo for this so I can access the glow plug. You can get away with a full sized servo but you might have to pull it to fiddle with your plug.

I saw the idea in here a while ago. I was a bit reticent to take the chance on it, but it seems to be working reasonably well so far.
