Sometimes I find it annoying when people post pictures that are the same as everyone else and have been posted over and over so I apologize if these pictures are dupes. However, since this is a small forum right now I though some of these pictures might benefit someone or me for that matter if you find something that should've been done differently. Anyway, back to the subject at hand:

Here's my new E4, maidened on 03/18

  • HS65MG servos on swash
  • JR DS3400G tail servo
  • JR G770 3D gyro
  • 430XL motor running 12 tooth pinion
  • 35X ESC (6 Volt)
  • SWE main blades
  • Spectrum AR6200 receiver
  • 100% straight throttle curve
  • +-11 degrees of pitch on the collective and +- 7 degrees of pitch on the cyclic

Those stock blade that come with the kit fly pretty nice don't they!

Notice where I mounted my remote Rx

Here's a picture of the grip mod. This makes a HUGE difference as far as consistent piro's are concerned.

I really like the tail belt design, very smooth and quite. I have a dozen or so auto rotations on it and they're pretty fun. I think between the nice smooth belt and slightly long main blades it does a good job.

Jetleaf,
That looks extra sharp with the color coordinating gear and servo arms. You even carried the theme over into the velcro strap.
Once again, very nice.

Kingair,

I like the tail grip mods. Did you drill and tap the holes to mount the balls?

Thanks!

Yep, drilled and tapped to 2mm. If you do the mod make sure you use SS balls because aluminum ones aren't heavy enough to make much of a difference. This will make a dramatic difference if you do a lot of piro maneuvers.

Hi Jetleaf !
Nice set up and I realized your main gear is in orange color.
Have you painted yourself or new version? Mine is white.

Fly high with dreams !!

Thanks for the compliments Boltz and Whiteshark. Those gears are the ones that came with the Beam, I just dyed them and the servo control arms with Rit fabric dye.

Kingair, my appologies sir if you feel I have jacked your thread as that was not my intent.

No sweat, it's hard not to talk about all that orange.

I was hoping this would turn into a component placement/setup thread for people that are building.

I've been Beamed!!

Finally finished mine and maidened it today. Went great, tracked well and no trim needed. Fast and powerful heli.

Setup:
Beam E4 stock kit
Align 325 CF blades (I didn't have time to balance the ones with the kit but will give them a try)
Align 430XL motor
Align 35X ESC
Logitech 2100T gyro
JR 3400G tail servo
HS65MG x 3
Flightpower 3s2170 batts
Spektrum 6100 rx

Flies good the only things I'm going to change will be to do the chinese weight mod on the tail. It held great but I could tell the tail servo was fighting it a little bit. And I'll balance and give the kit blades a try, everyone seems to like them.

We've been using 4 steel balls with screws. You then have to drill and tap the tail grips. I haven't done mine yet but kingair has just used a small drill press and 2mm tap. I've got a friend who is an awsome machinist and has the equipment to do it as well!

Deffinately is a worth while mod, if you ever are curious take the main and tail blades off the heli and disconnect the tail control rod from the servo. Then spool it up (carefully) try moving the control rod by hand, you will be surprised with the amount of force it requires to move it out of center. I did this last night and all I could think was man that poor tail servo!! It basically has the effect of speeding up your servo because the loads on it aren't nearly as high post-mod.

There is a pretty lengthy thread on it over at HF in the trex450 forum.

I'll post some pics later this week of mine. It will look just like kingairs though.

I just using the longer cap screw ago through the tail blade grip hole and put a lock nut (u can u 2 locknuts). This is more clean and easy. I guess mine is 2 or 2.5mm cap screw.

Pretty slick way of doing that. Are those nylon lock nuts then? What kind of balls or those, they look gold in the picture!

How much a difference do you notice in tail response frebou?

As much as "servo is unable to go to full end" up to "servo can freely keep the servo any position all day long without that much load."

Just try it, untie that pushrod, remove main blades, just spool up to 2000-ish rpm and try to move the rudder by hand! You will have a real hard time bringing it to the end. (same thing with a trexv2)

Now the trick is to put just enough weight so that the tail has a slight tendency to recenter. if you put too much weight (like if I add a washer to my setup) and the tail will try to go either full left or full right.

Now in flight, the tail holds rock solid with less gain, spins like crazy when you ask to (like : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip4RWqamwek ) and can hold some crazy tail slide. I bail-out early because I'm a chicken but I can start high and it goes down fast.

By the way, I'm using a 401 with an HDS-877 servo. fast servo but it does not have 14oz of torq!!!

I'm runing this setup since last november, flying multiple packs per week and everything is super smooth... even after 3 crashes
