I surely will.

I like to say that when I first put this post up, it was for the sake of safety and as a reminder to all our brethern in flight, to have fun and to do it safely. I did not want this to be a negative exchange of opinions. On the contrary, it was to be something positive.

I admire Albert's tenacity in wanting to get back to flying and I applaud him for his efforts. I will let him know that people here are keeping him in their thoughts and prayers.

Primo,

Our prayers to the Albert and his family for a speedy recovery.

As you all know, this will be a long post traumatic journey to a full recovery. I am glad to hear that his spirits are high and that the immediate support of fellow Island members will ease the path to a full recovery.

During my time in Guam, I have lost two good friends that quit the hobby due to post traumatic recovery (PTR). Please be patience and continue to provide encouragement, comfort and support.

A good Island Style BBQ at the field should begin the healing process.

Man, I missed those days. Memories of Joe Baza and I flying from morning to sun down and just BBQ. Only one problem, we (I instructor) forgot to check battery voltage and crashed his airplane. So much for the buddy cord but the friendship and memories of that day they will never be forgotten.

Anyway, with any mishap, an implementation should be in place to ensure that Safety prevails. Please review your safety rules and implement any necessary safety requirements.

One thing I learned here in Tucson, is never fly alone. For this reason I am a member of two clubs.

Living with one eye wouldn't be much fun, I hope the guy recovers quickly. I'm sure he'll adapt to his new challenge.

He should do just fine with depth perception. We all fly SIMS on PC screens, which are 100% 2D, just the same as if you had only 1 eye. Depth perception is aided by 2 eyes but does not require it. It's more difficult without 2 eyes but the human mind is an amazing instrument.

Wear a patch over 1 eye for a day and you'll find that you have no problem picking up items on the table or judging where the door is when you walk through it (I had to do this for a couple of weeks once). You'll also find you can fly the SIM just fine.

There are lots of visual cues for the mind to pick up on when judging the distance of an object, such as shadows, lighting, relative size, and sound to name only a few.

He'll fly again, but he probably won't track the blades the same. Nor will I!

tracking

WOW WOW WOW I was telling a guy at the indoor electric flying not to hold his heli and track the blades at eye level the other day! or at least get a pair of safety glasses! Man this sort of thing could happen to anyone, all it takes is for the odds to get any one of us.

Unfortunately it is not possible to fly with one eye (otherwise it will be very dangerous), because he will not be able to measure distance to heli during the flight.

Blik, I wish to that guy only good, but don't want to fly with him at the same field. That it. It is my personal opinion, and I am not forcing you to agree with me.

I just found out that g_dmitry flys alot with a member in his heli club, who is quite a good 3D pilot. The ironic thing is I guess he doesn't know, but that member injured one of his eyes due to an old work accident and I heard he has impared vision also.

Ray let Albert know we are all wishing him the best and there is no reason he will not be up and flying again very soon.

Cheers

Hey Ray,

Sorry to hear about your fellow flyer, Albert I believe is his name, it's unfortunate, and while I would like to wish him full recovery, I understand that is not possible.

But it does sound like his spirits are up, and that is important.

I think it does show that at times, where there is a will, there is a way. I hope he does resume flying.

I know of a guy in my city, who is blind out of one eye, and he flies heli's, I'm surprised g_dmitry didn't mention him, because he flies with him on a regular basis.

Anyways, his name is Mike, and he's a pretty decent flyer, in spite of the fact he basically has vision in one eye, it just goes to show it can be done.

g_dmitry, while I understand your concerns, sometimes we don't even realize who we are flying with, nor their medical conditions, and this in itself might be scary!

I guess the appropriate term would be "acceptable risk", something we all need to define for ourselves, as long as we are not jeopardizing other peoples safety.

Peace, and best wishes of recovery to your club-mate.

Well, I met with Albert this afternoon and seems like nothing changed. He told be he spent at least four hour this morning on a simulator. Looks like he will be back up on the horse and raring to ride the heli again

He even jokingly tole me that his girlfriend didn't want him to go to the field and she'd poke his other eye just for him not to go. Well, I guess he showed her who the real "boss" is. (Hahaha)

Anyhow, I did convey the positive thoughts and prayers to him and he was appreciative of the gestures. Really goes to prove that you can't keep a Good Man down.

Albert's Back!

This afternoon, he took flight with his Raptor Titan, doing a few curcuits to see the comfort level he was experincing. He did rather well. Some of the other pilots were trying to tempt him to do some inverted flying (of course...jokingly) He mentioned he wanted to regain the feel.

Way to Go, Albert. You really are the MAN!!
