Hi All!!! I have been thinking about having an FAI-AMA classes style setup clinic- maybe informal contest near the Akron-Canton area of Ohio ( about 50 mile south of cleveland) I will always be interersted in helping out anybody that needs help but getting a group together will be just a lot more fun. I have the use of a nice private field that we can have uninterupted access to. I just putting out this feeler to see what interest is there. It will be on a weekend that does not coflict with any other contest already planned. I am looking for what interest is there so i can plan accordingly. I just hope gas prices dont do what the media is saying or we will all be pedaling alot this year. hope to hear from you all soon . Tell all your friends Thanks Tom

Thanks for the replys guys. The tentive date i am looking at is May 17-18. Any input on the date and any request for venue plese let me know.
I want to get together and go over all the AMA classes and FAI( to the best of my knowlage) . Work on setups and depending on the amount of pilots maybe even an informal contest for those who wish to get the feel of what it is like to stand infront of judges ( it makes my knees shake even after 22 years lol)
I will check out accomidations and report back. primitive camping can be done at the field and there is a campground only 3 miles from the field. Hotels are about 15-20 mins away.

More to come

Tom

Good job, Tom! Good luck and see you soon, my friend!

BTW, read the last couple columns in Model Aviation by Eric Henderson, "R/C Aerobatics"...He talks about a "Club Class" that is being tried by the Pattern guys to introduce new pilots to contest flying. I think a lot of what he's saying can be applied to RC helis as well.

Cheers,
Erich

I do have access to a nice indoor area if the weather gets bad so that we can continue with setup help. I will have a regulation contest box set up for those who wish to see and feel what it is like fly under contest conditions. I hope to see you all there!!!!!!! Tom Erb

Tom, what kind of heli's should we bring , 600N ok ? And as far as setup time what kind of time is going to be dedicated in this area? My reason for asking is that I just picked up 2 more Stratus heli's I should be able to get the fans dialed in (I hope) before I head your way I just don't know if time will permit to get the rest of the birds set up before I have to leave .So let me know if you think we will have time to set these two heli's up or I can leave them behind .

Hi Jason !!! ALL helis are welcome!!! (even hirobo's george! lol) I wouldnt think that will be a problem to get the birds setup. what happens for sure will depend on how many pilots come. I will have to determine the exacts when i see what is needed for those who come. if the weather is bad i have access to an indoor garage that we could spend all day working on them. I would say if you got the room bring them.

I plan on doing a basics of setup in the morn for those who need it while having flight box running for those who wish to practice their patterns. after that some hands on setup help and 2 other boxs for those who wish to learn what the manuvers are for ama-fai patterns. even if they dont plan on competing they are great manuvers to practice.

see ya soon Tom
