Vario Sky Fox - Benzin - Evolution - Xtreme > Benzin R/C 230 Fuel mix

I have gotten up the nerve to start the engine on my Bell 47 this weekend. This is what I have in mind for mixing the fuel. I gallon of fresh gasoline with 6.5 ounces of oil. I will be using 6 ounces of Klotz Techniplate KL-200 synthetic and a half ounce of Sig castor. This will give me a 20:1 mixture or 5% oil. Any comments appreciated. BTW, is there any advantage or disadvantage to using Coleman Fuel instead of gasoline? I am asking because some of the giant plane flyers in my club use it and say it does not have the smell that gasoline does and they have no problem storing the planes in the house instead of a garage or shed and there is no difference in performance. Comments?

Use Amsoil. Use 2 oz to a gallon of regular gas. You won't regret it. You will however regret using that much amount of Klotz oil.

The advantage to using the coleman style fuel is no smell and less smoke, there is no disadvantage that I'm aware of.

20:1....should run like crap. I would go for 64:1 using Amsoil.

Mmmm

Why does the service manual that came with the engine advise using a 25:1 mix?

What do they know, they don't fly them Really, use 2 oz of Amsoil in a gallon of gas, or in Coleman camping fuel, and the engine runs real nice. Do a search for Benzin motors on this forum, i am sure you will find a lot to read about the oil issue with the benzins.

Vario - Joe

Joe

Do you work for air star Int. (Vario USA) or another Vario dealer?

Just curious, your knowledge of Vario Heli's is very high.

I am thinking of buying a Vario Benzin.

OK OK

I have found a local source for Amsoil! I mixed my first gallon using 2 1/4 ounces of the 100:1 ATC 2 stroke oil. I thought I would put in a little extra for the first gallon for break in. Seems I have wasted my time tho. Now its raining so hard I should have built an Arc instead, and its not supposed to stop until Tuesday! Nuts.

BTW: I agree. Joe is THE MAN. If you are interested in a Vario and don't want to get your chain constantly jerked on: GO WITH JOE!!

Thanks guys, just trying to promote the scale end of the hobby. I do not work for air star, i have my own business as a Vario dealer, but have been flying the Vario stuff for over 8 years now. I love it.
