e-Minicopter Joker > wobble issue

I'm flying an MJ2 with Plettenberg motor and Jeti Spin 200 ESC, TP 12S 5000 mAh batteries.

Initial spool-up starts out smoothly, but when I reach about 0 degrees pitch, the helicopter starts to bounce back and forth on the skids. If I push through this, ie keep increasing throttle, heli will lift off and smooths back out again. Then, when throttling down, this wobble happens again at about the same point, and then smooths out as the throttle is lowered.

Have checked main blades, they`re balanced, flybar paddles are parallel. I get the same results using V blades or the Maxi Joker blades.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

Have you tried adjusting the blade grips? Yours may be too loose. If they're too tight, though, you will get a similar shake, at least on spool-up.

Hi Steve,

Yes I did try adjusting the blade grips with no real change in the wobble.

The confusing thing about this is that it`s at the same point spooling up and coming down, but smooth on either side.

My next thought is to put it in the air again and double check the tracking.

At what throttle stick opening is 0 degrees?

Hi Joe,

Low pitch -4, high pitch +10, hover (+5) mid stick, 0 is one-quarter stick.

On reviewing MJ2 manual (pitch gauge), it calls for 5 degree hover stick position at 70%. I will need to set it up this way to see if problem resolves.

Thanks,

Laurence

I suspect your dampeners in the head. I'd check those and possibly grease them if needed. if they are too stiff they will cause the exact problem you describe.

Pletti and 12s on a Maxi-Joker?

Which rotorspeed do you have? Which pinion?

Derek,

Thanks, will double-check dampeners. The head had come pre-assembled.

Gerd,

Thanks for replying. Pinion is 12 tooth, rotor I'm getting readings of 1350.

Are the ball joints too tighten or, on the other hand, have you any bigger play in the linkage, perhaps assysmetrical, one linkage tighten, the other moving easy? Do you have the blade grip arms at the trailing edge.
Take a M5-hex driver and turn the feather spindle some rounds. Is anything better after that?
Are both blade grips turning easy without bigger friction?
Can you make a small film?

problem solved

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.

Gerd: Everything seems to be smooth and symmetrical.

Have traced the wobble to my oversized carbon fibre landing struts. I have cross-braced everything, and the wobble is now gone.

Thanks again,

Laurence
