Whats the best gyro tape to mount the 3 axis gyro on ?? soft or hard.

I have just built a ch 47 chinook & all the servos are moving when changing the throttle, could the gain be to high or gyro tape to hard??

Thanks

I was using some thin hard double sided tape and I had really bad results. If you look at the tape that comes with the kit its thick and spongey. The mechanics vibrate a lot and the mixer needs to be isolated so you need some good thick tape.

Thanks autorotator

I have changed the tape for slightly harder & only put a small sq in each corner it seems much better.
Got it in the hover today for first time yeee haaa!!!!

Its a bit of a handful though can u suggest some gyro setting or explain how you have yours set up.

Thanks Wayne

Tape???

I have been using a 3M product called 3M VHB
I have found it at Home Depot and also at hobby shops.... at HD it is in a 3M package and at the LHS it is Parma PSE #8044 Pro Servo Tape 1" x 36" 3M Super Stick removable silicone adhesive...
I use two layers on my gyro's. It sticks great, and no vibe problems at all.... might be worth a look...

plantone what radio equipment are you using in yours??? I first flew mine with JR and JR servos, but then changed to Futaba servos but still with the JR tx......Right now my settings are:
Aile Gy Hi+90 Lo 90
Elev Hi +180 Lo 180
Rudd Hi + 170 Lo 170

All amps at 180

Also check out this site for the head set up/phasing... very important!!! http://scalehelicopters.org/setting.htm

The timing is quite different for flying one of these, but once you get a hand on it, you are going to love it and they look GREAT cruising around.... Good Luck.,..Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

Definitely use Doormans settings and see how it flys with those. He knows what he is talking about when it comes to these things. When I was setting mine up I would take it to a low hover and if the tail drifted I just started moving the rud setting up until it stopped. Then I started on the elev. The heli would buck forward and back so I just moved the setting one way a few points and if it got worse I would go the other way until it stopped.

Like Doorman says it take a little getting used to. But once you have a few tanks through it is no problem. Although I had gone a while where I was just flying my huey and I hadn't flown the chinook in a while. When I went back to flying the chinook it was kind of squirrely again since I had been so used to flying a two blade head again. Keep us posted on your progress.

Update

Thanks guys for the info, i have found so far the best gyro tape has been a blue gel type tape similar to kyosho zeal green tape but this is thinner & harder i cut 4 x 10mm squares & placed one in each corner, works great.

Stan,
i used your gyro amp setting & gain this evening & the servo movement just before take off has now gone allowing me to up the gain gain settings in my TX till the point were the tail is just starting to wag, aileron is stable but elevator is still a little unpredictable to stick input & is catching me out a little.
I flew 2 tanks of fuel tonight motor is way to rich so will lean it of at the weekend it has only had 3 tanks now. CSM governer is set to 1500 rpm in hover.

thanks Wayne

Your On Your Way.....

With the engine running rich it will give you some "fun" moments too as that will effect your gyro('s) and add some unwanted movements.... it needs to come up on the pipe and stay there.... the gov should be helping quite a bit.... I was thinking of trying one of those too this season!!!! (need the time to add it)
Now that you have it in a hover and are able to move it a little, do just as autorotater (and thanks) says and make minor adjustments to one control at a time and add or take away and see how it feels....
And I also agree with flying the multi's vs the flybar heads.... the flybar will throw your timing off..... last season, I spent about 90% on nothing but the flybarless heads and once spring gets here I am going to be back on the multi's... this year I cheated a bit though and put a 4 blade on my rex for indoors.... keeps me in practice!!!!
And please do keep us up to date on your progress... Did you follow that thread on setting the phasing also??? That is VERY important to making one of these things actually fly.....

Good Luck, Stan
