e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Hurricane 550 Just got my new hurricane and have a few questions .

Okay I'll start off by saying I'm totally new to the larger electrical helicopters, and I'm still learning a lot of stuff about them.

I just got my hurricane 550 in the mail today and have a few questions about it already. In the manual it says that their is a built in BEC in the stock ESC but it is only meant for general cruising and hovering and I should get an external BEC if I want to do hard 3D or have digital servos.

Now I'm only doing hovering and a little bit of cruising atm but I have digital servos so I assume that I'm going to have to get a BEC and a receiver battery pack for everything to be running at a 100%. I just don't want my new heli dropping out of the sky on me on it's maiden flight since I already had that with my T-rex-450( actually was just light on the skids when it ended ;()

If I do need one which kinds should I look for and what kind of receiver pack am I looking to get ?

BEC

As far as I know both the 50A and 75A ESC do not have a BEC. Depending on which kit you have, there is a voltage regulator and a two cell Lipo included, which is good for digital servos.

ahh kk so a two cell lipo will be able to do the job ? I have two of those roaming around that I could use until I do get a BEC . Just wasn't sure since it was 7.4 volts for the pack ^^ thanks for the help .

Ohh yea and do I have to modify the esc plug to the throttle in any way ? I noticed that the Castle Creations BEC says to disconnect the postive lead to the throttle and I was wondering if that's the same with all BEC's and receiver packs?

Have to use a voltage regulator with the 2 cell Lipo, voltage will be to high with using it directly, especially for the tail servo.

generally the Gaui do not have a built in BEC and threrefoe you do not have to remove any wires.....

If posible post a link to what you purchased and we can see what set up you are getting.

I got it from Helihobby.com

http://www.helihobby.com/html/hurricane_heli.html

It was the standard addition.

Hmmm I'm starting to wonder if it's possible to use a smaller esc that I have off to the side just to use it's bec to regulate voltage down from the 2 cell lipo until I can get an external bec ordered and mailed in .

I had got my 550 a few weeks back and it was supposed to have a bec and it wasn't included. I contacted the Shop I got it from and they contacted there supplier ,that told them it was in the esc. So I hooked it up and no power. I got very licky to have a vender that sent me a Castle Creations bec for free to fix the problem.

I don't crash ,just land very fast

ahh that's odd. They must have some kind of error going around then. Because I thought that there would have been some kind of BEC built into the stock esc since it said in the Hurricane manual that it did have one but was only for general cruising and hovering, but I guess not. Wish they would fix that so there wouldn't be so much confusion with the product.

The link you provided staes there should bean ESC and a separate BEC (regulator) in the standard kit....it should be a small rectangular item with a smalll switch on the side...it usually comes stock with the Gaui kits....

You might to contact Helihobby and ask them.

The BEC should be included in the ESC from the manufacturer but please give me a call if it is not and we will get one out to you.

ohh sorry for the misunderstanding , I'll give it a try although I've been hearing that the stock gaui esc didn't have it built in. I guess I just assumed it was an external one with the way it was worded.

Hey Nikki,
Is Helihobby going to list any parts for the 550? All I saw was parts for the 200. We could use more places to buy parts from.

According to the description in the combo 550 Hurricane kit; it is just like the

T-Rex 600, Motor, ESC (WITHOUT BEC), BEC (with built in voltage reg.) and a 2s LiPo 850Mah battery. At least that was the way mine came????

whirlydude:
We are just starting to carry the parts for the 550, they just take forever to come in but you'll see them gradually get added to the site as they arrive.
