These are pics of the load bearing spacer between the thrust bearing and outer radial bearing in the rotor head. Both are quite cupped. Does this happen often? Should I replace them, or are the new ones just going to cup the same way? When these bend your damping loosens. BTW, this head I aquired used, so I am not aware of it's history

It is somewhat normal for them to cup over time.

With the "New" C-clip head axle, this washer is no longer used, the dampening should stay tighter, longer.

Thanks for replying, Chris, but you never really answered my question. Should I replace them or leave them as they are? You said it is normal over time. How much time? And do they cup to a point and then just stay there? Or keep cupping until they bind the bearings. Surely you have seen enough to know!

Thanks
Alan

Sorry, Yep. When I find them like that I put new ones in.

Thanks Chris, I will order some up. One more question, I was just looking at Mal's blow up of the C-clip upgrade. You state that the 16x10x1 washer is not needed. Something else must've changed other than just adding the clips to the feathering shaft, right? Is the thrust bearing bigger or are the radial bearings smaller or is it something else that is different? Just wondering if I can add this to my existing blade grips.

Thanks
Alan

Nope, nothing else changed.

The c-clip takes up the dimension of the washer.

You're existing blade grips still work with the c-clips.

I must be missing something here. Because if you just take out the washer, then you effectively eliminate the thrust bearing. The outermost radial bearing will take all the centrifugal force as the thrust bearing will now be pulling against the unsupported inner race???? The purpose of this washer is to transfer the load from the thrust bearings to the outer (supported) race of the radial bearings. And take a load it does as look how much they cup! Is this not true???

Thanks
Alan

Unless you have different thrust bearings, the inner thrust bearing race does ride on the OUTER race of the radial bearing.

Without pics, I have no idea what you have. The thrust bearings we use are 8X16X5.5mm with the 8 being the same OD as the radial bearing.

Originally, the head did come with smaller OD thrust bearings, then the washer was used to increase the OD to match the radial bearing.

Quite a few years ago we did switch to larger thrust bearings, when we switched to the "straight or no step" head axle.

So in fact the C-clip system CANNOT be used in this head until the head axle is upgraded and the thrust bearings are upgraded.

Pics help tremendously when trying to sort these things out

Sorry to confuse......

I was going to shoot some pics today, but I don't have to now. Yes I have a stepped down feathering shaft and smaller thrust bearings. I will check and see how much it is for the pieces I need to upgrade.

Thanks

Could someone please tell me if part #1132 is the new snap ring head axle and 8 mm ID thrust bearings? And if so does it include the snap rings?

Thanks
