A while back, I considered a stretched Trex600 but wasnt sure what boom and torque tube would do the trick. Any ideas?

I don't know why people say the Joker isn't 3dable, that video was 2 years ago on far worse packs then there are now and it was still ballistic. I can directly compare the Stratus 90 to the Joker, and at least as far as roll/flip rate the Joker far out-preforms the stratus. The Stratus is a little lighter on the sticks, but that can be easily attributed to the weight, as I have seen with my Acrobat which is the IC version of the Joker. ATM the Joker 2 is the 3D flagship for Minicopter, but soon, I beleive this year, there will be a new machine called the Joker 3D, it will have a torque tube instead of a belt, and I THINK it will be set up for flybarless. There is a post in the Mc forum, I will try to find it.
Also there are at least 2 places to easily get most Joker parts. Fxaero, on the west coast, and direct from Joe Howard out of Ma, who is the US distributor. He has almost all the parts in stock, and gets orders from Germany about every 2 weeks. Gerd the designer of the machine is VERY active on RR with the user name Gerd. He is always available by pm for questions. Joe has a very good reputation among the Minicopter contingent and he is highly regarded in the scale market as well, so have no fears dealing with him. Here is my Ideal 3D setup for the Joker:
Joker2
Radix BladesWhatever electronis float your boat servo and gyro wise.
Schulze future 40/160H ESC
12S1P 5000mAh packs (2 T-rex 600 packs in series)
I only have experience with the Actro 32-3 and the Plettenberg HP 370/40/A2 Heli motors. Both have theor advantages, you don't have to mod the canopy for the actro, but overall I think the pletti has more raw power. As i said, you cant go wrong with either.
http://www.akaa.nl/minicopter_webshop/shop_en/index.asp look here for all of the motor options etc. keep in mind all prices are in Euro. The Joker is a hair more expensive but you are paying for German quality.
Hope this all helps,
A.J.
EDIT: here is the link I mentioned, hasnt been updated recently, but I know Gerd and he never stops working. http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t364977p1/

someone mentioned the raptor 90 E conversion, how "user friendly" is that conversion and i can't seem to find a thread on it, thing with a raptor is, parts are well spread in my country and it's not too expensive, the raptor looks good, drawback will be switching from my trex 600 ccpm to mechanical mixing, but it's fine i want to do this conversion, anyone with a few pointers/tips it will be much appreciated !

trex is quite easy to convert and real lite too which makes it great so it dont strip gears ,
trex 600 ,
buy rotorworkz HFX frames so the motor can mount on top, plently of battery space to hold 2 6s 5000s , weight, 9 1/2 lbs , 32-3 , the boom can be bought from a fellow in aus. Phil , torque tube , from a rappy 60 , not the 90 , remember that! thats it , O big blades , I have 710 Vs on mine

being new to this size electric heli I like the Ion x and the joker but I am disappointed in the info available at the joker website. a price and a parts list only. It doesnt say what the kit contents are or any photos or build direction to look at. I also emailed them a couple of question over a week ago with no reply?? ( I dont know were the US website is)
I asked MA a question and had one a few hours later There were also build files and photos for the ION X.
Also the ION X is US build and supported
These are the things that make a big difference to me when you have 2 very equal products otherwise.

I thank everybody who posted info, I would not have been able to make this decision with your impute.

What do you think of the stock motor / ESC package that comes with the ION X ??

A fellow member has compiled this Joker build guide. (Nooobs)

http://www.rosaurophotography.com/html/ap_01.html

Its for the Maxi but is exactly the same for the regular Joker2. It is head and shoulders above any heli manual I have ever seen. His photography skills speaks for itself.

The kit includes all the usual parts. Motor, ESC, servos, receiver etc must be added as is typical with most kits.

EDIT: Parts: http://www.joker-usa.com/

Fergus

EDIT: P.S If you have specific questions about the Joker helis just post in that section and you WILL get an answer very quickly. You can also PM me if you wish. AJ is also very helpful (If not a little bias ) . If you wish to ask anything then feel free

Regards

I am a little Bias, but I can honestly say that I would not fly these machines I didn't love them. The instruction manual is on Joe's site under downloads, and if you look under products there is a full product description for the Joker. If the e-mail on that site does not work I would either try him at vario@comcast.net, or PM him or Gerd, or e-mail gerd directly (info@minicopter.de) The manual is very good and very detailed, they don't leave alot to the imagination, the manual is very specific. As Fergus said any other specific question I am here WAY more than I should be so feel free to shoot me a pm If you want more specifics on specific parts, Gerds site : http://www.minicopter.de under the shop has all of the parts and pictures of (most of) them.
Good luck with whatever machine you choose.

I must correct/add some things:

- Mails adressed to info@minicopter.de will be answered always within 24 hours. But we have not got such a mail.

- For reading the kit content simply click on the "Joker 2" page and scroll down.

- For finding US-distributors there is a page "Distributors".

But the page must be updated a little bit and get a new outlook. We will do that soon.

Generally (after reading this discussion): You can convert nearly each helicopter to a specialist (f.e. FAI, 3D) only modifying some parametres or parts.

I'm thinking that you cant go wrong with either. Now just see which parts are easiest to get. If money is a factor, then see which parts are cheaper but be ready because both are pretty high end machines with the Joker being the more expensive choice.

We are waiting on the contract signing on the camera ship looks like everything will be a go at the July board meeting. Were going to use a Gasser for that.

On my 90 size e heli I still haven't made up my mind. I had the opportunity to fly a raptor conversion on Sunday at the field and it was very stable it had wide 710 blades so not much pop but real smooth but felt heavy.
