Lets hear your opinions on 90 size electrics. Every opinion is welcome. Brand, kits, conversion kits, pics, video, links if possible. I'm not sure I can wait for the mystical T Rex 700e

Minicopter Joker 2
NON-conversion so you know its made for ep. There are a wide variety of motor options depending on what you want to do with it.

I have a Joker2 on 10s but it is not nearly as powerfull as a 600 size electric with the same voltage in my view (logo600 for example).

For all out performance in a 90 size then a Henseleit MP-XL-E on 12s would be the business. Especially if you equip it with a v-bar rotor head.

The only way to 3d the Joker hard is 12S. With either the pletti or the actro its is nuts. There is now also a vbar conversion for it as well.

your right A.J 12s is the key on the Joker or any 90 size electric. I just couldn't afford the packs and the Powerjazz

But if you want all out 3d on 90size electric then you have to be prepared to spend the cash. Might upgrade my J2 to 12s some day. I wish Gerd had redesigned the v-bar yoke instead of just removing the piston and modding the old one - the empty guides look awful. It would breath knew life into the Joker though (even on 10s I bet).

My father and I went with big schulze "pop tart" ESC And with the prevolence of 6S 5K packs for the 600 machines pack price is going down and down.
Gerd said I think (but dont quote me) that with the new head they were getting 10-20% more flight time with BOTH joker and the Acrobat which is awesome. I have not had a chance to try the new hard simply because I cannot afford the actual vbar system.
To me what makes the Joker stand out is that even though the joker is heavier than a IC 90 its feels so light on the sticks and rolls incredibly fast. It is just a rocket ship whether your going verticle or in FFF.

20% sounds about right. I have heard that said of alot of v-bar setups. I have read some of the big players are working on similar flybarless systems including Futaba so price should come down soon I hope. It makes a huge difference to the heavier 90 size models.

I am really happy with my Joker2 they are really well engineered and a joy to fly.

The soon to be released Jive ESC from Kontronic should really help with 90 size 12s electric setups. Good things to come in the future

Looks like two votes for the Jokers Tailgunner

Thanks for the info guys and I hope more chime in. I know I cant be the only one looking this direction.

Battery pack are not an issue for me as I currently have 2 large planks with 12s setups and 1 with a 15s setup and a more than ample supply of 4 5 & 6s packs. I was also hoping someone had went to one of the SHV CC or JAZZ esc's and tried more than 12s on a 90size.

Anyone have an ION v-2 on 12-15s yet??

I never had a Joker to play with but... the E-stratus was really a great flier. i also had a xeroG that i stretched out to 700 blades
power wise it was great. i used the same motor and esc on the first E Stratus. actro 24-5 w/ a Schulze 32.55 on 11s 3700 packs it was right at 10Lbs. and flew great. but then i got the 12s bug. right now i'm working on a 12s E Synergy w/ Vbar.

I have a JR Venture 90 that's convertet to E .
It's just a alu plate where the mainshaftbearing was in , that's changed .It got bigger cause they mounted the engine on the same plate.

I've got some Venture's for sale .

I think my e-Avant was the best. Supper easy conversion and easy battery mounting. The only necessary mod to the airframe were four holes in the CF side plates to mount the motor mount.

this was pretty easy .. everything was sourced from Min Air,except the mounting plate that was our idea..only had to slot 4 holes in the plates that locked the pinion in place...

remove all glow components, tank, shroud, shroud supports ect... remove the clutch assy,

and bell assy.

then seperate the upper bearing block from the pinion, if using a different tooth count pinion.if using the 11T pinion just unscrew it from the bell.then screw the pinion into the adaptor. and insert the pinion back into the bearing block.

now bolt the motor onto the mount plate

place the adaptor and pinion assy onto the motor shaft
then insert whole assy. back into the frames

then take the upper carbon plate and slot the holes, to adjust the gear mesh.

i slotted the lower holes...

the pictures show the main gear installed during this but it is easier to do this with out the main gear in the heli...
i flipped the upper plates over so the ingraving is toward the frames. you might have to slot the holes a little more to get the holes to line up when setting the gear mesh. i run the mesh pretty tight (already stripped the teeth off one 100T main gear.
install batteries i placed one pack under the radio tray on the front, and 1 battery where the fuel tank sat.

you can also place them to the front of the bottom plate and she CG's
right on the money with TP 5000 packs a little trimming and you don't have to take the canopy off to change packs...

Yep Chuck , no breaking the motor shaft on that mod , to me thats the best way to keep a motor shaft intact,
JKos , huh! down fall on that conversion if you care to share? like motor shaft breaking , on 10s , yes it was easy , but the pinion is just clearly to far out on the shaft for it to last dont you think?

hey , well the last 2 days I been working on the Avant that you see the pictures of Jkos machine that he use to have , yes thats the same motor Jkos , {{{lasted 4 flights last year before the front bearing wasted the new shaft , 4 months I been waiting on a shaft from hobby club and some bearing,}}} Stinks! but anyway , this is the second version of the belt drive , and as you can see , lot of work to get what I was wanting in a machine this size.
The Avant needs a whole new frame design to properly rig it out for electrics. Told Augusto this last year. but that wont do any good. he cant even come out with the Aurora yet!

so on the synergy mod do you find a high enough KV motor to run pinion to main gear or would it benefit from a drive belt ratio system like most of the other large e setups???
on the avent that miskimmo is showing is that a ratio reduction on the belt system?

Nice looking work guys!

I sure wish there was a few guys with big e birds around here. lots of helis in our club and area but only 2 with 90 size and both are fuel.
