I also have been watching this thread, I got a HDX 500 sah and hope to have it in the air this weekend. I am waiting for blades, I ordered a set of the FG blades from helidirect and they were defective (they came apart at the root on first spin up) lucky trakcing was so bad it never flew or it would have been disaster! Anyway I am hopeing to set this up on 6s A123 cells with either the stock motor or the Scorpion 1000kv, otherwise it will have to go with 4s lipo (which I don't have) I do have 2 2500 3s Evo 25c packs but by reading here I don't see that as a option. I believe I have a 24t pinion but I haven't actually counted hit

I use 2x2250 three cell packs 25C in a six cell configuration with no problems at all so i would say a 2500 6 cell 20 to 25 C should be fine .As far as the speed thing goes, i do not know .What got damaged in the crash.Did any of the electronics burn any shorts or broken wires ,any smoke ? or got super hot ?

I fly the yellow fiberglass blades from helidirect the 425 mm ones and love them ( $ 25.00 dollars )Are smaller and faster than the stock and somewhat easier on all the electronics .Today i tried a new motor that totally blew me away .It is a little heavy at 224 grams but the power was incredible .Better than the scorpion and better than the stock motor at less than half the price .Could not bog it down no mater what i tried On 3 cells and +- 13 deg .The down side is it will only run on 2 - 4 cell But so far it is the best this heli has felt .The bats 2x 2250 25C in parallel ,come down not even warm .

I got a chance to test fly my HDX on 6s A123 cells this weekend, unfortunatly I only had a 22t pinion so headspeed was a bit lower then I would have liked, but it flew fairly well, cyclic was slow but I got a good 5 minutes of flight. I have 2 4s 3700 mah packs on order and a few other pinions as well and also the 13t tail gear. Tonight I will swap out the stock flybar with the Trex 500 to hopefully liven it up a bit!

as for the Yellow FG blades from Helidirect, I would NOT fly those! that is what I had which came apart at the root, and I have heard of a few others as well, Personally not worth the risk!

I have been thinking to try some of those a123s but i need to get an other charger .I like the idea of 15 min charge time,if i could do that goodbye nitro .I hate the 1 hour charge .As of the blades , i hear you .I had no idea about the bad rep on these .I will try to find some more info .Also what main gear are you using ?If you use the stock 94 tooth ,a 22 tooth pinion will give you 3800 rpm on the head on 6 cells.

I purchased 2 new evo 4s 3700s, but my power is still down so im guessing its the motor on its way out, I did change my flybar from the upgrade one that was extremely thin and brittle(like a lead pencil) to the stock thicker one, but this was a week or so before I crashed, but cant seem to remember being so down on power, will try going back to thin flybar and new motor.
I flew with a few guys on the weekend and they seem to think the power drop is all in my head and my heli is ok for 4s, I nearly convinced myselfe that it was just me untill I tried a stationary flip and its not in my head definately low on power, can do big sky rolls and flips but not enough for anything more and straightline forward speed is very slow too, I wouldent think flybar thickness would make that much difference, but will need to see, im starting to wonder if my power was down before and this is why I hit the deck, I dont know what happened one second was flipping then the next crash!

Did you make sure that the throttle was set properly in the ESC, maybe your not getting full throttle

This is exactly what the heli feels like as though not getting full throttle, but I have no idea how to reset the speed controller, i did not buy it new and it was already set up for me. I have to find out what brand it is somehow.

Usually when you turn on the ESC and you have the throttle already set to full it will beep and accept full throttle then you put throttle to low and it will beep again and then you will also be in setup mode. Turn off the esc and turn back on as normal with throttle at low. See what happens.
Better if you can find out make etc but thats how most work.
