Tools and Field Equipment > Dynatron Amp Draw?

Does the Dynatron have a certain number of amps it pulls or does it vary? I was thinking of using the battery pack below but the discharge rate is only 3 amps with a 6.5 amp max. Wil this work or do I need something that puts out more amps?

Thanks,

Amperage depends on voltage and load. However, a stalled dynatron will suck well over 80A on a 13V source.

Hmm, do you think this particular battery would just not work well in this application or would it just turn itself off due to the circuit when the amp draw exceeds 6.5 amps?

Welding

It can draw enough amperage to weld the switch together if you stall it with too much voltage.

I prefer to keep it at 18V for this reason. I would rather stall the motor without welding the power switch closed. On 18v, if the engine won't turn over there is something wrong, like a hydrolock.

That pack will shut itself off at over 6.5A. Not even close to suitable. A high discharge lipo in the 2200mah range will take it as the bursts are very short... if you are smart enough to let go of the switch when it doesn't turn.

Here is a thread on some decent rigs. http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t322756p1/

yeah, I have read most of the threads but I was trying to narrow down my options. It's either buying 2-8 cell nimh packs, buying a new lipo, or using 2-3 cell lipos from my trex450. I know my 2-3 cell pakcs will do the job but I'd rather buy 1 new pack just for charging than take 2 packs from my trex.

I just put together a 5S A123 pack of the 1100s. I use it to start my 90 size helis. It's light in weight and quick to recharge.

Above is a post for a very cost effective adaptation of existing batteries to our needs.
