Heres a project I have been wanting to finish for awhile.
I had an old xcell 60 with a ys 61 in it, it now has a rimfire
50 55 650 motor, I'm using a jeti spin 77 esc.
Have a hercules bec and an old csm 360 gyro.
I intend to try this unit real soon, maybe tomorrow if our weather holds. Has 690 mains so gotta get used to slower head speed after flying trex 600s:)

maidened it

Flew 2 packs today before the cold wind came blowing in!
I am happy with the conversion, need to do some more tweeking
with the jeti spin box but I think theres as much or more power as the ys 61 had!
And best part. NO MESS , no start up issues, just plug in and fly!
Put back in 2900 mah on 6s with a 4 minute flight,(nothing wild mind you). Lotta nostalgia happening believe me!

cheers all

noise

Yes, it sounds way cool!
Those big blades (690s) make some very different sounds when you
pour on pitches.
Little bit of gear noise but it sure don't sound like a 60 !

Nice conversion

I have an old X-cell 60 custom graphite that I would love to convert. It is in a scale Longranger.

There have been a few conversions, but not a lot of info.

Any additional info on the following would be appreciated.
-motor mount
-pinion gear/shaft/bearing block

Any updates on flight tests?

Thanks, Jason

Manny,
Great job on the conversion.
I have the same heli that I would like to convert one of these days. Like Jason asked, can you tell us what you used for a motor mount, gear and any other details.
Thanks,
Joe

e 60 xcell

Guys : i bought mine off ebay:
The guy makes all the hardware and sells as a kit,
you supply the motor, esc and batts of course.
The pinion is designed for a RIMFIRE 50 55 650 (tower hobbies)
The align esc is recommended but I now have my Jeti 77Working nice, so that is another way to go.
Flew it today and pulled 94 amps max (shown on the jeti spin controller) Not hard 3d just mild aerobatics and some inverted work!
Now I got get a driven tail, that thing autos rediculously slow

Definately recommended as a fun cool project!

Hi Manny

Looks good!
The high current draw is the only down fall with this setup. Mine will be in a scale fuse so current draw will be worse.
I am looking for on 8s setup, in the hopes of reducing current draw but have not found a motor yet.

eagle tree graph with hard climbouts

So: 60 / 70 amps flying around.
80 amps for loops , rolls and inverted stuff
110 amps for full power hard climbouts!

Wrong info

Sorry guys; i used the watts line instead of amps!
So max amps was 83 in hard climbouts !
Better!
Hope this helps with the decisions, it is a very nice way to fly
your nostalgiac heli.
personally I think it would work very well in a scale setup!
Next winter>>>>
