okay so your hs is lowered...and what if you get your radio comes back on and the hs is already too low ..its going to crash anyways. If you have the regular hs and your radio comes back its still very possible to safe the day of course IMO

Depends on your controller, but it will rev-up again, Kontronik quite slow, but its often enough to recover, dont take much RPM for a heli to hover at full pitch.

Without it, damage going down in full speed will be alot more, and of course the very real risk of loosing the heli all together.

If your headspeed stays up and you don't resume contact your heli will at best thrash itself to bits on the ground with the motor still running or at worse will come down somewhere where it causes damage to people or property.

A 450 size helicopter will generally survive pretty well if you simply shut the rotor down and let it crash - even from altitude. I doubt this is equally true for bigger helicopters, but I would wager that power-off crashes are still generally better than power-on crashes.

What radio system are you using? I've only ever had one lockout on 2.4ghz and that was when I was provoking the system severely (2.4ghz camera onboard).

A bit like a kite, but 500 times more expensive

Kogi, think the whole reason behind fail-safe is not to save the heli,
but people and property, but as mentioned, it would certainly lessen
the damage to the heli in most cases.

Am interested to see what you find on your swashplate; have same, one
on an older, well-flown L10. Been very reliable! Did you hear any
squeals or other, (indicating bad bearing), as you were losing it? Or
before?
How old was it?

We also HIGHLY recommend the use of failsafes, especially on a gasser.

We recommend setting the failsafe so that the engine goes OFF, and all other controls go to HOLD.

Here's why, IF the engine or drivetrain is the CAUSE of the interference that puts the Rx into failsafe, then when the engine quits, you get control back and can attempt to auto safely.

If the engine and drivetrain are NOT the cause, and the heli continues in lockout, then at least the rotor RPM may be slowed or stopped before it hits the ground or property or PERSONELL!!

Yes the heli will still crash, so why NOT add even the smallest amount of safety by using the failsafe system as it was intended.

Chris is right...very true with gassers and nitros, and even more true because upon crashing the throttle lever might break sending it to full throttle and totaling the already downed bird
