e-Mikado Logo 400 500 600 > swashplate came apart inflight this evening....resulting in a nice crash

I just sold my logo 14, and I was itching to fly my 10. The scorpion I ordered hadnt arrived yet so I bolted down a mega. I was just planning on some very gentle sport flying anyways.

About 4 mins into the flight, it was as if the heli locked out. It started drifting sideways and I had no control. It seemed like for ever, and I was correcting it without any response. I even tried correcting it in the opposite direction. It started getting closer and closer to this miniature fence, and finally it hit. It made that dying screech, and I suddenly got a headache. Its funny, cuz up until the last second I was thinking that it would somehow save itself.....lol.

Upon removing the canopy I found that the dang swashplate had gotten dismantled. ...

I am currently confused as to if it was a radio lockout, and the swash came undone after that. Or if it was that the swash to startout with....ill post the crash pics for anyone who cares to giggle a little.

and I was correcting it without any response.

Can you remember if you tried any tail input. The swash wouldn`t stop the tail working. lt sounds like lockout to me.

i didnt give any tail input yet...it sounds as if it happened slowly however withing 3 seconds everything was done...the radio works now though..

I suspect that its the swash because none of the servos were stripped. If it happened after the crash I think the servos would have been stripped..

what swash plates do you guys use? Im looking for one right now actually..so if any of you guys have one for sale please let me know
thanks

when swash separates you get alot of pitch, heli flying upwards.
You would have to go almost full negative to get it going slow downwards.
(happen twice with align for me)

did that happen for you? if so then it happened inflight.

it was going sideways pretty fast and I was only running anout 1650-1700 on the head even if it had pitch it would have still not climbed....i suspect its the swash and I want to believe its the swash and not my radio...ive got a bergen eb gasser and I would hate for that to lockout on me!....

Is the bearing in the swash locked up or still good?

when I lost the swash on my Align, it did not climb much, I had just lifted into a hover and then the response to my inputs became less precise until there was no response at all. It lifted a little and did a nice lazy semi-circle pattern until it drifted in on its side onto the parking lot pavement. I was pretty new at the time and did not think to hit throttle hold until after impact. Dohhh!

Kogi, PM sent.

Do you have any failsafe set?

K

A bit like a kite, but 500 times more expensive

I dont set failsafes..if the heli is going to lockout and crash then failsafe will not save anything of course IMO

I wasn't trying to start a debate about the merits of failsafes (though I certainly use one) but just thought it might help solve the problem of whether or not the swashplate came apart during or prior to the crash.

what does failsafe do? please can someone explain? Its not like an auto pilot that takes over or anything like that...

Lower the throttle channel so heli dont speed away.

and yep, it helps if you get a lockout since it spools down the heli when it crashes.
