Toy E Conversion

Total weight as it sits now is 6 lbs 4 oz.

Tail section is connected by the original snap lock, which I don't trust so I added the aluminum band to keep it in place.

Landing gear

Great job on the conversion!
For landing gear, I fashioned some new skids for a none flying version. I used aluminum tubing for the skids and flat aluminum stock for the legs which where then covered with Streamline Aluminum Tube by K&S. They are by no means "Tuff Struts" and would probably bend if you landed hard enough.

glad a ran across this!

i have been collecting 1/18 scale aircraft and helis for a while. flying R/C for a little under a year.

i had this body hanging for a month and i thought i GOTTA be able to convert to R/C. kinda glad in a way that i am not the first. that just means there are resources out there.

i too plan on going with electric, and have no interest in doing 3D, but actually doing scale "ground/support combat tactics" videos with it, but want something that has POWER when needed. later i would like to do what i can to get a scale rotor assembly for it. but thats later cause i am sure it will be confusing as F..err...all get out for me.

That is an interesting mount for the heli to the fuse.. Did you make it from scratch or was it from something else that you could modify to use?

Heli Mount

The first mount was 2 pcs of 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/8 delrin bolted together for each side of the heli. It took up too much room so I just hand machined 4 small blocks of aluminum. The 2 rear mounts are smaller then the front, this was done to keep the heli frame in line with the tail boom.
My project is on hold while I convert another of my many shuttles to electric. When this is done I will use the same motor and battery setup in the scale heli.
I ran into a problem with making my own A123 4S1P battery packs. I can not for the life of me get any solder to stick to the positive side of the batteries???? I use flux, new solder rosin core, clean everything, new 60 watt soldering iron. All with no luck. I solder wires and boards all the time I can only think that the positive side of the battery is aluminum???? What would silver solder do??? Is there glue or epoxy that will conduct 10 to 25 volts?

electric version

i know some of you have stated that you are going from gasser/nitro to ELECTRIC.

any progress on this yet? i havent found one single electric version of this yet, and its driving me crazy :P

i really dont care what brand/type the heli/frame/mechanics are as long as

1. cockpit remains intact. (enough to hold 2 figures in front..someway)
2. had good climbout power. nothing 3D, but has power to "move" if needed.

1/18 scale

i believe 1/18th scale is going to be a little small for a 30 size heli. I have several 1/6th scale helis and they are all but perfect for the Hirobo Shuttle frames I put in them.

Hi there. I only briefly saw that scale on some model shop....so I can't really know the actual size. I was wondering will TRex 500 be able to fit into it? (since .30 heli cannot right?)

1/18 scale

I really don't know, if you go to e-bay then to "21st century toy" and look for helicopters, you may be able to find someone with a 1/18th scale.

Wait a minute...are we referring to the 1:18 size Little bird or the bigger size Little bird (the one that for the 12inch figuring)?

For the 1:18 size, i have. The size is WAY too small for even TRex450.

1:6 Scale

The 1:6 scale is known as the AH 6 Littlebird, it is the same size as the blue heli in this post. This size will handle the 10 to 12 inch fiqures.

Thanks watersteps for the scale size.

I still wonder whether will TRex500 be able to fit into it?

Scale Size

If you take a look at the regular shuttle and size it up to the 450 that will tell you. The shuttle fits in with room to spare.
