Fly X Cell Heliman Location: Hampton, VA
| 5000 ReportWell here's the report. Ion X2 11.27:1, Actro 32-3, 12s, TP 5000, 710mm SAB. This is a heavy setup and the heli knows it. You have alot of pop and power but some of that is accredited to the 710's. Although heavy( nose heavy), it tracks solid in FFF. The weight shows up in piro maneuvers. All Piro maneuvers, like 540 stall turns, even level piros, upright and inverted, and just forget about piro flips. Aileron tic tocs required alot of top rudder input, but elevator tic tocs were another story. The nose comes over quick, real quick. Nose dow tic tocs were fast too. The experience wasn't terrible. If you have never flown a lighter Ion, then 5000's may be okay. You'll just have to get used to all that weight(11 oz increase over 3850's) that far from the mast.
Ion X2 11.27:1, Actro 32-3, 12s, TP 3850, 710mm SABI kept the 710's on just see the difference from my 690's. This setup likes 710's. Explosive pop and ballistic climbout. Cyclic didn't slow down too much. The only issue is that 710's do not unload as quick. My collective management skills are probably better suited for 690's ( different timing).
Verdict 5000's will work if you just have some laying around and are dead set on longer flight time. You will have to learn to fly differently with that type of weight distribution.
3850's with 710's give you alot of pop, but be careful with your collective. It unloads noticeably slower than with 690's.
3850's with 690's gives me what I need.
All of this changes with a different motor and/or a different gear ratio.
