I will be maidening my Xtreme 50 tomorrow as well. I may bring both of my cameras out there so I can get some good still photos and video. I am definitely hyped about flying her tomorrow morning.

Got it in the air today, unfortunately I've got some sort of fast vibration that loosened up the tail boom support rod screw, making it fall out, leaving the support dangling from the rear support. Landed while sliding backwards and it folded right up the way it should be and got it down safely.

From the 4 minutes or so I got, it flies very well. Very fast in forward flight, and nice and stable while having very fast cyclics. I'll be ripping it apart and figuring out the vibe, hopefully I'll be back out later this week for another few flights. Wasn't a total loss, I did get 3 flights on my 600N with the new TT Redline, very nice engine, and the QUK swash and washout made a HUGE difference in flight qualities on the 600N.

Started messing with it, and discovered a new issue, the flybar seesaw has one of the mounting holes stripped. I noticed that the screw on that side was loose (it was tight before flight, and fastened like the instructions say), and after pulling it out discovered that the threads are stripped. Pretty disappointing, I've pulled the seesaw, and it seems like it was made of pretty soft metal, and with the length of the screws there aren't very many threads engaged in the seesaw.

Oh well, I guess I'll bite the bullet and spend the $18 + shipping to buy a new seesaw, but I'll wait until after I go through it to see if there's anything else messed up that needs to be replaced.

Found the source of the vibe, the tail was out of balance, pulled the hub with the grips, blades etc and balanced as a unit.

Thanks, I don't quit, I would have torn it down to the last bearing to find what was causing the vibe. Luckily it was the 3rd thing I checked.

Eury......What was out of balance on your tail ? This should of been good to go out of the box. What's up there.

As for the head and parts, what type of aluminum is this made out of, what grade of metal ?

I am looking at this heli hard but when you spend 600.00 to 700.00 for a kit it better be made out of some good metal, all the parts should be good to go.

Somebody said the parts in this kit are like MA parts......are they that good ?

I balanced it as a unit, but I believe it was the grips themselves that were out of balance, as those tail blades were pulled from my Evo (and prior to that, my 600e, I've had them for a while) where there was no vibration problem. It's not unusual to have to balance a tail, I've had to do it on numerous helis.

I'm very happy with the quality of the parts, I would say it's up to MA quality. Maybe the flybar seesaw I got is a fluke, or maybe I overtightened it. I'm leaning towards my seesaw being a bad one, I've put together enough helis to know the kind of torque that these parts can take, and with my drivers I've never been able to make the threads fail on a part like that before. If the replacement does the same thing, then I'll know there's a real issue there, but I doubt it, the rest of the heli is so impressive, I really think I got a bad seesaw.

My new seesaw came today, the threads on it look good. This time I used red locktite and just snugged the screw down without putting much torque on it. There's no play, and moves freely, and it'll be nice and secure without the risk of the threads failing, and if I need to remove it, a little heat will looses them right up.

That's the way I installed mine with red loctite and let it sit overnight and have not had a problem with them stripping or loosening up, I do check them after every flight though.

glad i checked mine.... to me it looks like the bolts that go into the seesaw could be a little longer... anyways.. i pulled mine out and red loctite them too.!!! good catch eury...
I am just taking every precaution before this thing takes a real flight..
I don;t mind going in the terra firma from a dumb thumb but from a mechanical failure... that p's me off....that stupid little pin that holds that gear on the tail shaft put my 90se in the ground...
nothing like a .01 piece causing 300+ in damages

Got 2 flights on it today and was able to abuse it some. For some reason my governor wasn't engaging, but my carbsmart worked perfectly, and that is officially the coolest thing I've ever put on a heli.

Flight wise, the X50 is definitely better than my upgraded 600N. It's not night and day, but it tracks better, is more stable, and has about the same fast cyclic speeds as my 600N. Piro rates are pretty much identical, and with no mixing, it rolls like an arrow, with no pitching up or down or corkscrewing. Very nice. It also autos well, I wouldn't say it autos better than my 600N, if anything, not quite as good, and it develops a severe wobble as the headspeed comes down. Which brings me to my issues.

I need slightly softer dampers. It starts to wobble in the flare of an auto, when the headspeed is still up in the 1500 range, where my 600N doesn't unless I really try to milk and auto and get it down into the 1000s (the 600N has the sleeve damper and 90 durometer). This is a bad thing for me, I love to auto, and I'll need to address it. I'll make another post about the dampers, though.

That damn seesaw loosened up in flight again! Apparently red locktite with the bolts snugged wasn't enough, after my first 8 minute flight, one side was loose. I've cleaned them, and put red on again, this time torquing them down more. At least this time the seesaw itself didn't fail, so I have something to work with.

I redid the electronics 2 times since I posted the last pictures, here's my final setup. It's cleaner, and puts the switch for the regulator/glow down low enough so it's easy to get to and I can see the lights. I'm happy with the layout now.

Sounds like you really like the carb smart I'm thinking of doing the same thing with Steven's, I will have to pick up a new right side frame as I have the original version with only the triangle to reduce weight and would like the carb servo cut out instead of modifying my frames to work.

Let me know if it continues to perform well, everything I've read was very positive, and the article I just finished showed great results with an onboard temp device to show the consistency in the head temp.

Well I just ordered a carb smart to give one a try, with the "HOT" weather in Florida coming soon enough I think the carb smart will work great down here keeping the engine running at it's peak and not overheat.

I too am thinking of trying one once I break in my newly rebuilt YS 50. I may go ahead and order the Carb Smart with an HS-65HB.
