Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Tuned Pipe on Gassers any feedback?

I just had my first hover with the Hanson pipe. Mine has no real vibration isolation on it, and I noted no extra vibes either.
My engine was tuned rich already, just leaned the low end a smidge for a nicer idle.
Going to the lake to fly shortly, then I will start work on the high needle.
I dont have the regular header, I have a very different one, though still a Hanson.

I still think the regualr header looks nicer the way the pipe sits.
But I do believe that with this pipe and a higher CG, it should have a faster roll and flip rate.
Anyhoo, Im off to fly

If you bling it, they will come :D

So windy that I couldnt even do a circuit! lol, gusty nasty wind too
Anyway, she flew like a champ! Very impressive power.
Just did some really high full power climbs and stuff.
Nothing came loose which I cant say about my last pipe lol.
Just chasing my 611 gyro settings now really. Has a very slow drift to the left.
All in all Im extremely pleased

Glad to hear that gorn! what is your clearance between the pipe and the header? and what's the lenght of your header?

I have no clearance between the muffler and header.
The pipe is about 29.5cm total length, measure from the inside of the flange to the full length of the header measure from the side.

I have a total of 30 inches from the flanges. I used two original Zenoah spacers before the flanges and has a clearance between the header and the pipe also around half an inch.

ahhh that explains it.
Pulled my spark plug today, tan center and dark around the edges.
Im happy with the way its running, so am going to leave it as is for the time being.
Taking a while to get used to the sound, as its quite a higher pitch and can be hard on the ears at times lol

Yeah Im loving the power, and the look is really growing on me.
Its funny, but my heli has never run so smooth, less vibration than before
Still waiting to hear from Realheli about a canopy, new carbon baseplate and leading edge clutch setup.
I dont like flying without a canopy very much. Feels like impending doom

Yeah me too, It can easily cause diorientation. by the way what is the entire length of your tuned pipe system together with the header attached?

Had 2 more flights over the weekend. AWESOME!
I did note that I had to fiddle with my tuning a little bit though, and didnt realize why until I got home lol.
Turns out my boom bracket and muffler coupler clamps had gotten a bit loose, and the pipe had slowly been working its way backwards
Wondered why my plug went from just starting to be a tan colour to being black again lol.
Im going to bite the bullet and dremel my canopy for header pipe clearance tomorrow. Have been having some overcast conditions, and I just dont feel comfortable doing FFF with no canopy for orientation.
Going to get some help setting up my governor next weekend as well.
Im pretty sure I was getting some overspeeding on descents in gusty wind. Im happy with how my tuning is coming along, and Im flying in idle 1 and 2 already. Time for the governor and some final tweaks

I experienced the overspeeding thing also when I descent. I think that the governor will solve this problem. right now I temporarily remove the tuned pipe because of the pinhole in my header. I am still looking for a replacement. I am again using the RH muffler. yesterday I hover my maxum inverted and it was very stable, the loops and rolls are so easy. The cuban 8 and split S are awesome.

Pinhole That sux.
I know its not pretty, but you should consider the hanson header I got as a bolt on replacement.
I'll get some pics tomorrow of how it all looks with the canopy trimmed up to suit.

Heres the 1st stage of modding my canopy to suit.
Not fully happy with the lines yet, so will most likely tweak it subtly in a few places.
At least the canopy can be fitted now though.
Hit me with some ideas on finishing off the shaping of the cut.
Cheers

Hi Gorn,

I suggest to trim the canopy like Shiro's canopy. The lines look very smooth.
