Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Tuned Pipe on Gassers any feedback?

I just wanted to metion that I am the one that he bought the pipe from. I used it for about a gallon of fuel and then the alluminum header pipe cracked. I was using it on a new, (not broken in) before Al took over, hanson modified G26. This was my very first expeirence with a gasser and it was in my brand new Spectra G at the time. Since I was new to gassers and just getting my Spectra flying I am not sure if I would have liked the pipe or not. I know that once the header pipe broke I wasn't going to mess with it anymore, and the Century V2 came out so I bought one of those. Also after using the G26 for a few gallons I decieded to buy a stock G231 because the vibrations from the G26 were killing my Spectra. I now use the stock muffler and a stock G231 and love how my Spectra flys.

Installed my Pipe to my gasser. The initial feedback is it is really powerful and tunable but my problem is the vibration because I mount the bracket of the pipe to my tail boom and the vibration in the pipe resonates on the horizontal carbon fins having a high frequency up and down vibration. any suggestion on how can I eliminate the vibe?

You can change the length of the tune pipe to fine tune it assuming the drive train is not causing your problem... If its the tune pipe, then it should go away or minimize as it gets tuned...

nice

Shiro,

Nice mounting. I always thought it was strange to use sound energy to bounce at a certain speed back and fourth through then pipe to help extract the gas. I have a small amount of vib on the tail that has gotten pretty close to glass smooth but never there. It is just the pulses of the pipe.

As far as the vibs I 'believe' and I am not sure of your gear ratio and assuming everything on your heli is not bent, but if you are certain you are on high end needles richen up the high end just a little. It takes a little time to get it to transition on the low end to the high end. I had this when the pipe length was the shortest. It did produce the most power, but all or nothing and un-tunable...so I guess a trade off.

How did your CG come out? And what is the O.D. of your pipe?

The CG of my heli is just fine. Actually I put the pipe to compensate the weight of my heli, It is a little bit on the nose heavy side. The outer diameter, measuring the biggest portion is 57mm. Do we have the same size pipe? How about your header what is the length of your header?

Hi Doc, as I've seen in the picture of your heli you don't use a coupler. Did you attached the header to the pipe directly? I am planning also to do it but still not sure if it will run well.

Tuned Pipe on Gassers any feedback?

I couldn't have been more happy with the Power. I could have & should have gotten the muffled version but the diffrence that pipe had on the motor was Amazing!! I was shooting for 2000HS & that's where the motor will run with that tuned pipe.
When I bought the Tuned pipe the header & gasket came with it.
I noticed no problems with the CG or the looks, but I guess that's just an opinion.
I'm a bit dissapointed in myself for selling my gasser after all that hard work on set up!

Hi Jon, as I observed the pipe on your gasser it seems that it is a little bit smaller that the pipe I had with my heli? Where do you get that? and do you put a small clearance between the header and the pipe?

Shiro Muji,

I saw and heard Jon's Predator with the tuned pipe when he brought it to the Jacksonville Fun Fly Sept 14, 2007. I was not impressed with the sound but the power was awesome.

I tried the stock Zenoah 231 muffler on my Predator at first. Then installed a Century V2; could not believe the increase in power over the stock muffler. I just put together my Predator Carbon with Toxic Marine Stage 1 mods on a Zenoah 231 and a Century V3 pipe. First flight was awesome and the sound is not grating on the ears.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

Hi Florida, I think the sound preference is relative to the one hearing it. I have a good muffler too made by RealHeli but I want a different look and sound. Personally, I love the look of a heli with a tunepipe that's why i tried one. So far I am impressed with the boost of power but still tuning it. and thinking of a good bracket to support the pipe for it not to have to much vibe.

yea

There is vibs in the pipe. I tried to let mine 'float' as much as possible.

Mine does'nt have the nice slid adjust. It does have a coupling, but it has a spiral SS coupling that you spin in and thats why the diffrent lengths had to be cut. I am not sure if you can see it or not.

One expert that I talked with suggest to use the clear high temp silicone in with the threads so the pipe does not rub the threads together create other problems. Since you dont have threads though you will be fine.

Shiro Muji I got the tuned pipe & header from Al over @ BHanson + comes with a copper gasket and silicone ring & hose clamps. Nothing but bolt on performance!!

Just for the record, that video wasn't the best it's flown, I bumped my cyclic up just before binding before flight, probally over 9+ deg of cyclic in combination of +12/-11 pitch was a bit too much, plus I'm not very good at tic tocs either, but had fun try'n.

With 4 or 5 deg of cyclic & +/- 11 pitch it never boged with that pipe.

Lookin good Shiro
Is that the new canopy you told me about?
My muffler mount is hard mounted to the boom, but my header is different to yours, so Im hoping not to have the same vibe issues you had. We'll see next week.

If you bling it, they will come :D

Yup Gorn, I did only some little trimming to make it a little bit more sporty. That is the Canopy of Ino the Owner of RealHeli, I just borrowed it because my canopy is under painting job. There is still more slimmer than shown in the picture.

HMM

Finally got some time away from work. Its been crazy with Ot.

My pipe is the same O.D as yours. I have about 2.3-2.5" of pipe length between the header after it makes the 90 and the beginning of the pipe. What is your length?

I think that it is a good idea to try to support the pipe up front like you have done. I remember reading the instructions that came with the tuned pipe, they said to support at the front and rear. I never really complained too much when the header broke because of the fact that I didn't have the front of the pipe supported. I figured that might have been why it cracked on me but really I don't think that had much to do with it.
