I'm new to this sport so bare with me. I've got a Nexus .46 w/o the starter cone; it was replaced with a hex reciever. This 'reciever' is then set-screwed to a shaft that goes to the engine and clutch.

Here's the problem: That damn set-screw keys coming loose! I've tried Loc-Tite, Super Loc-Tite, Red Loc-Tite, Blue Loc-Tite (are you getting the picture) and none of them seem to work.

Here's the question: Does Kyosho make a different starting option? Someone out there must have had a similar problem and found a solution.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

What do you mean when you say set-screw keys? Do you mean the set-screw itself? Check the condition of the set-screw's tip. It should be either a cup point or a barbed point with teeth that will bite into whatever it is tightened against. If it doesn't have one of these type of points and is flat I would replace it right away. Also make sure it is the proper set-screw, meaning it is not a imperial size going into a metric thread. This will prevent it from being able to hold properly because of the different thread pitch and screw diameter. Red loctite should be able to hold the set-screw with out any problem unless the wrong screw size is used.

File a flat where the set screw touches the shaft. It'll allow the setscrew to bite more surface area, keep the shaft from spinning, and help keep the setscrew from coming loose. Use Locktite.

On the Nexus, the start shaft should have 2 flats on it already, both 90deg from eachother.

If things are coming loose with Red Loctite, the sizes may be wrong. Loctite is used all the time in Cars to hold bolts in, there shouldn't be any problem with it holding small set screws. Check the sizes to make sure.
