For us, in the UK, digs about temps in the eighties and balmy nights in California do nothing for our love of modern Americans.
Here we suffer, and good flying weather is not a God given right. Hence the weathermans use.
You will note all the club members carefully observing his technically modified "Bowler" to which he has attached two Helium filled balloons.
These balloons give an immediate indication of the flying conditions at that moment in time. For example:-
1/ Balloons above "Bowler" = Calm weather
2/ Balloons at an angle to Bowler, as in Photo, = windy, plus added bonus of indication of wind direction.
3/ Can't see balloons = middle of night or foggy
4/ Balloons turned white = snowing
5/ Balloons wet = raining
This is the sort of innovation that put the "Great" in front of "Britain"
God, I'm so proud to be British.
