Budgie
I'll scratch my head with you.
Air,Fuel,Heat = Running
Plug exhaust = no air flow = no fuel flow.
Could there be wear on your carb. barrel ? Allowing just enough air
and fuel to maintain running ?
Fuel follows air so I would look for an air leak at the barrel or at the carb. " O " ring.
Check your carb. seating into the engine.
Or maybe the " O " ring on the needle valve.
Hope this is of some small help.
Regards

If the engine keeps running it is getting air from somewhere, if the engine has a throttle stop screw back it off, if not start looking for intake leaks.

Look at any part that can leak, head, throttle barrel, backplate, carb to case.

I had an MDS plank engine like that!
It was one in a million, screamed like hell's bells, awsome engine and with anything less than an 8x6 with the carb fully closed it would not stop...
I just put a bigger prop on there... maybe more masked the problem but its nothing major, Still runs like a champ

Sounds like you have a carb with a defect on the barrel or mounting. On my TT120 I had to seal the carb in with RTV - the rubber gasket wasn't enough.

Anyway, my TT91 drove me nuts as it was impossible to tune (either to rich with no power or would lean out too much) so I DID chuck it out and put an OS91SZH - pure bliss, just plug and play!!

Budgie, I can't comment on your sanity but I can agree that TT engines can drive us nuts. I have two TT120 plank engines. One I bought new and it has done excellent service in a 1/4 scale Extra 230. It starts brilliantly each time and runs without hassles.

The other one I bought 2nd hand with a 1/4 scale Cap 232. It ran fine for a while and then started cutting out in the air. I could not solve the problem after re-sealing the carb, replacing the fuel tank and lines and etc. Eventually I took it out and put an OS 160FX in. The plane flew amazingly to the last drop of fuel. I gave the TT120 to a LHS to sell and it is still sitting there on the shelf 3 years later. Nobody wants a TT engine with a history!!

You'll love your OS - let us know how it goes. Don't let the TT bug you. Attach it to fishing line with a hook and catch a big one!!

You'll love the midrange needle! It makes it possible to get consistent mixture across all flight regimes.

Everything is not sealed perfect or the engine would shut off, it can't, won't run without air period. You need to pressure test the engine in liquid and see where it leaks.
