Well wanted to try some A123 in my Mini Joker and quickly found out that the 10S A123 pack ( how I had it made up ) will Not fit in the stock setup.

Hmmm what to do now? I spoke with Brian @ RCTOYS and he makes up a small conversion kit that will allow a 10S A123 pack to fit in the Mini Joker very easy for 29.95.

Took me less than 30 min to replace the standoffs, turn the rectangle alum blocks around and add the spacer, Wooola Pack now fits with a little wiggle room.

Here are some pics, I thought I would just pass it on if anyone else wanted to try this with there Mini Joker.

Yes the inside demensions side to side is 2.674, I dont have a pic of the canopee on yet as I am still building it and when I get to that point I will post pic of it with the canopee.

Another things is that the batt position for a correct CG is just about an inch further forward than what you see on the last pic, so it is perfect. I will post a pic of that batt position later for you to see.

I am setting up this ship for AP so the little extra weight with the A123 is ok with me as I am not going to 3D this ship anyway, but I am sure you could.

This is my first mini joker so I a still wondering what blades to use I am guessing 600 but would like to run little bit bigger blades, any one have any sug as to how big in lenth you can go on this ship with this motor (Actro 23-4)? I also have a Z-motor Z30 800 that is sitting on the shelf,

To fit the 10s A123's (stock configuration out of the Dewalt packs) in the stock width battery compartment is a tight fit. After adding balancing tab and the pos/neg. connectors its all but impossible. I have two Mini Jokers that are stretched to run 710mm blades (joker 2 boom and custom belt) for AP that run on 10s2p A123 4600. I made new battery plates out of G10 that are a little wider and just used some alum. spacers from the local hardware store. See pic below.

In order to use the stock CF battery plates (width) I had to extend the battery tray vertically a lot and mount the battery's upright instead of on their sides. Again this was all done with longer spacers and bolts.



The picture shows the thick G10 plates I have since made newer ones that are much thinner but just as strong. You can buy a sheet 12"x12" of G10 for $8-10 from Mcmaster-Carr.

Of course if you change the A123 config. to a shotgun style pack the stock battery try should work just fine.

Jeff chose not to do the shot gun style due to the length the pack would be. The pack would be over 13.50 " long. This way we we were able to make it about 10-1/2" long.

and also, (Jeff correct me if I am wrong) if we did go with the shot gun style pack you need at least 2.125" clearance anyway for the height and I do no believe there was that much height from the factory.

In the stock "Dewalt" config. they will fit the stock width battery tray. However, you have to be very "good" with hiding your balancing wires etc... or you won't get them to fit.

Are you looking to run the A123 in a 1p or 2p configuration?

In the end, making slightly wider plates was very easy and cost effective. It also helps eliminate the possibility of the shrink wrap wearing out and shorting out on the Alum spacers over time.

I make my own A123 packs from the Dewalt 36v packs that can be had on ebay for $90-100 per 10s1p pack.
