I bought the kit used!!

Hi Beltfedbrowning, I bought the kit used, but new in the box for $90.00 that is why I am building the viper. The canopy came with the stickers on it and it looks fine I will add a photo later today. Because I got the helicopter at a great price that is the only reason why I am building this helicopter. The truth is the T-rex and the parts cost alot less than a viper 70, and they are very close to the same size. I also had a T-rex and the helicopter flew great without any problems for over 6 months before I sold it and move on to a larger helicopters. The old saying the larger the better!! The viper is just a winter project so I don't get board around the house. When I complete the build and get it flying I will more than likely sale it.. Now if it flys better than my big helicopters, then I may keep it to fly around my house for a while, but more than likely I will sale my winter project... A Update on the build the Mega motor 16/15/3 has more power then I expected and at 1/4 stick without the main blades the helicopter wants to lift off the ground with the fly bar.. The Mega for what I can see has tons of reserve power and work with this helicopter. I am just passing this information on, because I was not sure what motor to use when I first started to build and I did not want to use the H8 I am very impressed with the Mega Motor and will also add one to my World Model j-cub 400 airplane that I am also going to start building this spring. Next Step today (Satruday) is to add the main blades and set the pitch... Will add photos tonight.

COMPETED THE BUILD!!

I completed the final build and am now powering the helicopter up to do the final setup of the radio, balance, and most importantly the exponential because the controls are just way to sensitivity. If anyone has any suggestions on the exponential please send me your setup numbers, and I will give them a try.. I tried to lift the helicopter and as I just started to lift off the ground the controls were just to sensitive and I almost hit the blades to the floor. When I get this adjustment corrected we should make our first hover without any problems. OK I also added more photos....Take a L@@K and give me any comments you got? When I change the EXPO I will try again tomorrow (Sunday)...

GreyBird you are right on!! But, New Delay!!!!!!!!!

Hi GreyBird, I set my expo at +30 seems to give me the best feel on the sticks.. You were right on!!! I also added the weights to the flybar to make the helicopter more stable. Next Step!! Next Problem!!!...I need a battery charger so I ordered the DN-power charger from Bishop Power Co. on the 12th OF Feb. 2008 shipped USPS priority mail. The charger was on sale for $64.00 including shipping what a great deal for sure. Today is the 20th and no battery charger yet. I was told that they made a mistake and the battery charger was returned and that the mistake was thier falt, so they added an upgrade to the charger. Not sure what the upgrade is, but I was also told that the charger was sent out and should have it buy Tuesday 02/19/08. I am still waiting it is now Wednesday the 20th and I hope it arrives in the mail this afternoon. I will also pass on what Bishop Power Co added as an upgrade for thier mistake. I just have not seen any needed upgrades to this charger or that the company was coming out with any upgrades.. so maybe they sent me a DC power supply, but not sure I will update you when it arrives.. Wow what a build this is turning out to be one for the records...Delay Delay Delay.. This helicopter must be something special... I am now grounded till I get the battery charger.... When the new charger comes I will add some photos on how I wired and setup the battery charger and power supply... and also how well the battery charger works...Later!!

Latest NEWS on the charger!!!!

Wait till you hear this one. Bishop Power Co. for what ever reason changed my order from the DN-power charger to the hyperion 5i DP + LBA10 combo with JST-XH and data cable. I never heard of this charger and I was kind of upset that they just made this change without asking me. OK from what I could find out about this charger is that maybe it is a better charger:::: with more features than the DN-power charger. Will I was told I should receive the Hyperioin charger by Thursday. If anyone has any information or comments on the Hyperion 5i please tell me what you know about this charger... I hope the helicopter Gods know what they are doing!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Gian, It's Great to have you Join Me In MY Build!!!

Gian, I am sorry what Mains are you referring to? Not sure I understand... The main blades are longer for sure they are 30" blades and larger boom both long and thick that is one of the things the viper 70 is know for larger blades and boom than the T-rex.. It is good to have you visit with us,, stay around it is like a soap opera trying to get parts for the build!!! Ha ha Ha Ha...

^^ LOL! I hear that! And, thanks for the welcome!
Regarding the 'mains'; It just looks as though the possibility exists for the main blades to come into contact with the tail blades. This absolutely could be the way that I'm seeing it in your pictures, and I haven't looked to see what stock lengths are. I just want the build to go right for you and not end in any sort of misery... I've always admired the Viper series, and it's cool to see this build. Enjoy!

Hi Again Gian!!!

The main blades are perfect and don't even come close to the tail blades..It must be the photo that makes it look that way. I to am enjoying this build and hoping that it shows to the new Bees that nothing ever goes the way you expect things to go... I am now waiting for my new battery charger (GROUNDED)no power to fly...I am just looking at the helicopter on the work bench and it is very impressive.. I can't wait to try and fly again...Talk Later!!!!!!!!

I mostly delt with a person named Troy...Anyways tomorrow I am going to add my battery connectors and setup the charger and balancer to my Li-Po battery pack and power supply, then read the directions and get my battery charged so I can complete the build. Only a few more steps left. I need to try out the new expo readings I installed in my DX radio, and the weights to the fly bar to steady the helicopter. I will add photos of the charger setup tomorrow, and a few more photos of the helicotper itself...

Hyperion 5i DP Charger & LBA 10net balancer + extra cables!!

I got the charger and balancer together and charged my helipower 2200MAH LI-PO 18C 11.1 Volt Battery. I started reading the directions for both items and then went for it.. The battery charged in about 1 HR to 2294MAH during charging you could keep track of the MAH, Volts per each cell 1,2, & 3 and time of charge. when complete the charger sounds and alarm for about 15 seconds. I've added a photo of the charger setup. I also added some photos of the helicopter...Battery all charged up and ready to go. So I tried it and powered up the helicopter smooth as a baby's butt till all of a sudden I got a bad flicker from the main blades. For some reason the head twisted about 15 degrees. That broke the fly bar control and the swash control in the rear of the swash plate. I then twisted the head back to position and don't understand why that happened. I got the screw going through the head then through the main shaft and the screws tighten on the lower part of the head... I will need to take the head apart to find out why it twisted... Then replaced the part.. Jay hope the new parts you are sending are on their way because, again I am grounded. I am going to change my site name from hover-l-h to grounded!!! Enjoy the photos and if you have any questions please feel free to send me a message.

If the main head bolt is in, and the head bolts at the bottom are tight sounds like the metal mixing block below the head wasn't tight and turned on you. It clamps on to the main shaft so hold it and turn the head if the mixing moves it wasn't tight, for the head to turn you would have to shear the head bolt. Let me know what it was you have my number. Take care. I will see if the parts was shipped

The Swash guide wasn't, you don't get that when you buy the Carbon frames I had take it off the stock frames. The Viper uses the same swash guide as the Eco 8 use. As for the hiller, I had only found one, it was the one with the male end can't find my book don't know the part #. Take care!

New Parts Ordered!!

I've ordered the new parts, and took the helicopter apart to help speed up the fix when the new parts arrive... Grounded again!!! Now this was my fault, because I don't have the anchor screw that goes through the head then through the main rotor shaft hole I missed the hole, and the head twisted when I started the helicopter up. I stopped it before the helicopter could get any big damage so this was just minor and cost around $20.89 to fix including shipping.. Dumb Dumb Dumb - grounded, grounded, & grounded... AGAIN!!!
