Ok!!!! I give up I am selling the viper 70 for parts under electronic helicopters in the for sale section. Also included are photos of everything that is up for sale..If you are interested please take a look...The motor and gyro are for sale under motors gyros and esc..I will also be putting up the servos later today....Thanks guys for all your help...

Take a l@@k at my viper 70...The kit is complete I am now ready to add the electronics this weekend...The motor is a Mega 16/15/3, the controller is a align 35AMP, swash servos are HS-56 and the tail servo is a HS-85 metal gear..Might be a little over kill but it should help to keep the tail steady as a rock.. I've balanced the main and tail blades and I am now ready to solder the motor and controller connectors...I will be flying this snake with a DX 7 radio. I am hoping to have this completed this Sunday..Then it will be time for the final setup and alignments... Enjoy the photos, and please send me any comments you might have about this helicopter. Thanks!!!!!

Added the Motor!!!

So Far I soldered the connections to the controller, Motor, and Battery,,, Then tested everything out and it all worked great...So I added the motor and controller to the helicotper and it mounted perfect..This motor has tons of power... I powered the helicotper up without the main blades just for a minute to see that everything is in working condition. I looked close to the gears making sure they are not showing any signs of abnormal ware.. The motor has power up perfect and I am now ready for step two! Tomorrow I am going to add the servos.. and if there is time I will also add the gyro. I will put more photos on tomorrow for you guys & Ladys to see how I am coming along... Talk Later...

Hello, here is one way of figuring out those settings with the DX7. With the servos installed in your model:

1) Start off with your cyclic servo channels in normal (not reversed) and with the default 60% swash mix values.

2) Move your swash stick up and down and reverse the servos necessary for the swash to move up and down in unison with the throttle stick. You are done reversing individual servos.

3) Check your aileron inputs. If your aileron needs to be reversed then change your swash mix "AILE" setting from +60% to -60%.

4) Check your elevator inputs. If your elevator needs to be reversed then change your swash mix "ELEV" setting from +60% to -60%.

You are done. If you need more/less aileron, elevator or pitch throws you simply have to increase/decrease your swash mix numbers accordingly. Hope this helps and good luck with the build.

Chachin..

I did get the swash plate values figured out...-80, +80, +80 thanks Jay for the help on the values they worked great...Will when I find four servo screws that will fit the elevator servo I will then move on to the next step setting up the receiver and gyro...Then I will be ready to add the main and tail blades...The final setup will included checking the pitch of the main blades and that the swash plate is level and then I should be ready for the first flight...I am done for today the superbowl will be coming on in a few hours...Talk Later....

What the He!!! Stopped Again!!

I am now stopped again because I had a problem with my elevator servo...I had to disconnect the ball rod from the swash plate and the ball on the swash plate just fell off..What a cheap A@@ swash plate...I would not buy another one that's for sure..I am going to get the metal swash plate which means another delay...I did get the screws for the servo and I was back in business: Stop!!! Now we will need to wait till the new swash plate comes, and I should be able to complete the build.. It is like someone up there is trying to stop me from building my helicopter!! "The helicopter Gods"!!! But I don't give up and I will get this helicopter to fly one way or the other. It now has become a challenge between me and the helicopter Gods!!!

Just a note to you, if your using 80% swash settings I'd make sure that there is no binding at full positive and negative pitch with aileron or elevator input. I have one of the new Royal Eco 8's using the Spektrum DX7 systems and I had to use 60% setting on the swash mix in order not to have anything bind. I get plus 10 negative 10 pitch using this setting with servo travel at 100%. If you do get binding it could cause your servos to overload the BEC which could cause your receiver to shutdown due to low voltage. Just wanted to pass on this info so you don't have a lockout or problem on your maiden flight with your new bird.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the INFO!!

Thanks for the info... I will lower the swash mix to 60% just to be on the safe side of with my first flight...Thanks for the help Gary!!

Note: To all who are reading this build of my viper 70 please any tips, if you see I am doing something wrong, or think I should change something..Please feel free to comment I am not an expert on building helicopters...Thanks and when the new swash plate comes in I will be going on to the next step...more photos to come...

I skirted the binding problem on my Eco8 by installing the aluminum rotor head. It has a different design and has a greater pitch range. One should only consider this if using the heli for inverted flight. The stock head is fine for non-3D.

VIPER 70!!!

I got the servo problem fixed the screws were to long on the elevator servo. So I cut the two screws in half and it worked out fine...I then installed the gyro after testing the gyro to make sure it worked I only installed it with velcro till I get it setup when I know it is working correctly and holds the tail I will then install it with two sided tape... I put the tail section together and tested it also working great. Final thing I worked on today I added velcro to the battery stand when I complete the battery stand it will also have a velcro tie down which will give it a stable hold on the stand and not slide in any direction incase of a crash...I added two photos, the head is missing because we are waiting for the metal swash plate...

Still Waiting?

Update on the build! I ordered the metal swash plate from FXAeromodels on Feb 8 today is the 13th and the swash plate should come today or tomorrow.. Then we can move on to the next step.. So far I've had two problems that should be addressed by Ikarus, one is the cheap swash plate I just can't believe that is a German made producrt. So if you buy a viper kit the plastic swash plate is junk and add the cost of the metal swash plate to the kit first thing before you start the build... The other problem is the directions Ikarus should have more detail about setting up the radio mostly the swash values and sevro reversing. Again the new metal swash should come today or tomorrow and I will then start the build again and send more photos of the new metal swash plate...

The Swash Plate ARRVIED!!!!!!!

I got the metal swash plate today in the mail...so I now have a new problem we are having a major snow storm that started last night and at 5:12 PM today is still going about 10" of snow + the snow that was already on the ground about 21" total now is about 31" we broke the record for snow totals over the year of 76 inches and we now at 85 inches and looking at hitting 95 to 100 inches this year. So I have time to work on the helicopter I just don't like when I have to wait for parts...But that's how it goes... I will try and work on the helicopter this evening if I don't have time I will do some work tomorrow for sure. Next step is get the swash plate installed and the main blades...I just can't wait to complete this helicopter...

New swash plate is installed and looks great..

Hi All I got the new swash plate installed and leveled "see the photo" I also got the gyro setup I had to reverse the setting and it also seems to be working great. I am still not going to use double sided tape on the gyro yet till I know for sure it is working perfect...If I should have any problem with the gyro I also have a GY 240 that I know works perfect and will change out the gyro for now I am good with the E-flight gyro. Tomorrow I hope to add the main rotor blades and then gauge them along with the fly bar blades then we are ready to try our first flight...

Get someone to get a picture of it in flight(hover) for me please. Have you decided what you are going to do with the canopy? Paint or stickers?
