Should have this thing in the air this weekend. It's a Joker 2 running 12S (FP 6S 5000mAh packs X2) with an Actro 24-5, Jazz power ESC, JR 8717's on cyclic, GY 611, 2 Western Robotic HV BECs in parrallel for 7 amps out. 710mm Rotortechs with 105 mm on the tail. The kit came with a 15 tooth pinion which I think is going to be a little fast. We will see what the head speed is governed. Should be interesting.

15T wont be fast at all on a 24-5. I get around 1590 at 100% on a 16T

Tabbytab,

Thanks. Are you running a 12S set up? If you don't mind telling me what electronics, ESC, BEC, motor, are you using?

I would be careful running the becs in parallel unless they are designed for that and have the appropriate diodes.

I've been trying to get good data on the best way to run BECs in parallel and it's conflicting. Some folks are running this way no problem and some discuss the need to run diodes to isolate the BECs. While the batteries are in series I will be tapping off the total voltage, not each battery individualy. The BEC will simply see the total 44.4 (up to 50 at full chrage) volts. Therefore I don't have an issue with tapping the two batteries and creating a shorting path. I've asked Western Robotics to give me a recommendation but I'm interested to from others what the concerns are and what there experience has taught them.

IMO best way to do it is to run the DUAL UBEC setup made by koolflight, they make a system specially designed for this and I have hundreds of flight hours on it.

I prefer the true redundancy only offered by the UBEC/Battery combo. I put my UBEC-HV in parallel with my RX battery using a pair of Schottky diodes for low current loss. This is a proven combination. If you loose your flight pack, the RX battery takes over. If you loose your RX battery, the UBEC takes over. Simple as that.

I don't use ANY switches, because they are a point of failure. I just use stanadard RX/servo connectors. That also makes it convenient for bench testing, since you can just plug in the RX battery to power up your servos etc. without having to use a flight battery and have the danger of an armed ESC/motor.
