just set up the MX and on the initail run I heard a whining, checked the pinion area and white dust had come off the drive gear,so am assuming the pinion wasnt set right and I might have worn some teeth off.. but was aware of running paper thru to set clearance....anyone have this problem, and what was your fix?

Even when the gears are set right, I sometimes get a little white dust until they wear in properly. This happened on my gasser and 450, BUT, no whining. (I only whine when I crash !)

well when I set the motor back in position and tightend it up tried to spool up it wouldnt catch , so might have worn off too many teeth, not sure yet but it was running great till that happend, more input welcome

You also have to make sure that the modulus of the pinion gear is the same as that of the main gear. If not the teeth are not the same shape and the pinion will usually grind away the main gear. All pinions are not created equal and I don't just mean the number of teeth.
