Out of curiosity, what thickness of aluminum did you use for your side frames?? Did you use a CNC?

Have you considered strategic reinforcement in areas of high stress? Just a thought.

Very nice job!

hi Invrted1

thanks , yes i really need a 27 tooth pinion , and the stock is 20 , with 12,500 at the engine , the 20 is only going to give me around 1500 RPM on the head , which is just about a good sport setting , but too low for 3D , the 27 tooth would give it around 2000 RPM headspeed and i think it would of course bring it to life , if i could source a 27tooth MOD 0.7 pinion i would be a happy camper , but not having been able to find it so far , it was either give up and wring my hands , or plow ahead with the 20 and see what turns up , thanks again , dana

Hi Dana
12500 is the ballpark but it might well be happy running higher RPM like Toxic Al mentioned.

Maybe one of our machinist pilots here on RR could step up and provide a custom 27 tooth mod .7 for testing? If that turns out to be the right one for the job, a batch of them would go well with the "Copperclad 600G" kits

hi
i have the equipment to machine one , but it would take a mess of time and effort as i would need to build a jig , to hold the blank to my rotary index table , and i would have to order in , or cut , the proper bur to make the right cut for the tooths profile , having one CNCed would probably be a bit spendy and i am thinking the 20 will get it in the air , which will give me a chance to iron out the rest of the conversion , but i am keeping my fingers crossed that a source will still show up
i have been in the shop , and have the A.R pillar ready to mount , will post photos in a bit , dana

my other option with the pinion , might be to get online and look under vacuum cleaner parts i am thinking Align might make one

I am sure someone here has the resources to do it quickly or at least know where to get one. You have other things to deal with, hopefully one of our interested members will take it upon themselves to find or make one for the project.

hi Invrted1
i have my fingers crossed , i can get them in 0.5 , 0.75 , 0.8 and 1.0 , figures Align would come up with a unique size , i have read the Logo uses 0.7 also but i couldn't find a source for them either , i was carefull to leave room with the frame that if one turns up , i will be able to install it

here are photos of the AR pillar , Align had a angle cut in the top of the frame that located the AR pillar and to copy what they did would have meant moving both servos down or making the top of the frame profile taller , these photos show the stock setup

instead i cut two small pieces of alloy that let me have the same angle , it is just applied to the inside of the frame above the servo , i had to add an additional screw , but it let me tuck it in above the servo , and keep the frame profile a bit lower overall

cheers , dana

Seems that Mikado has only a 17 tooth in .7, but how about Revco making one?

hi Invrted1
any shaft size up to 10mm , and a length of 12 mm would be perfect , thanks , dana

WOW!!! , what a great link , you are the man! , i just posted it into about 8 of my favorites lists , i had looked into a CNC place that was talking $200.00 a pop even SDI gets around $100.00 for a MOD 1 15 tooth but produced on a 3" 10mm shaft , so i was thinking custom order was out of my league , i will keep my fingers crossed , thanks again

Getting a pinion that is only 12mm long while being a 27 tooth might be tough. If I have this correct, a 27 tooth, .7 mod, 12mm long with an ID up to 10mm would work? How long could it be and still work? I am hoping they will already have a .7 mod 27 tooth that can be modified if it is too long and has the wrong ID.

hi Invrted1

the main gear for the 600 is 8 mm wide and the clutch setup i am using has 12 mm of pinion teeth showing , that is the stock 600 pinion width , i can bore out a smaller ID or even solid pinion , and it could probably be bigger than 10mm ID also , pinion wire (stock ) would be great also any length

i have been getting pinion wire from SDI , 100mm length of solid 14T mod 1.0 , i can bore it and turn it to length and a 100mm piece is good for about five R-90 pinions

so any thing 12 mm or longer would be great , bore size dosen't matter , and any thing over 20 teeth would be good too

Now I get it. They might be willing to sell a 1 foot long piece of mod .7 27 tooth stock that you could cut the length to fit.

hi Invrted1

a foot would be great , i would rather buy stock like that then smaller pieces , the other thing that is cool , they list the 600n pinions as 0.7 mod , i had just measured mine and figured they must be 0.7 , so i am happy to see i was at least looking for the right size , thanks again , dana
