I know I am not the only newbie here that has a flight sim. How are you other newbies doing with your sims?

I have a copy of RealFlight G4 and I have been using it a little each day. I am getting more into it as I get better. In other words, I don't close it cause I am pissed off that I keep crashing. I like flying the bigger helis because they are more stable. But I am getting better at flying the Heli-Max Axe CP and I figure that is about as close to my HBK2 as I can get. Man is it twitchy.

Anyhow, off to dinner.

I've been thinking about getting one, but then I think: For what some of these sims cost I can get 2 barebones Kings. Thats alot of spare parts and alot of flying time on the real thing. So far, no sim for me.

finally a man after my own ideals I was getting lonely out here. Be careful Sarge we are the few the proud those who crash and rebuild instead of crashing and restarting with the spacebar. $200 for a pc game aaaahhhhh.

Best Sim...go to evil bay and get another "beater" cheap... Just kidding. I downloaded a freware sime recently, sent the guy some cash for his efforts. It's only a T-Rex and it is configurable, but I do SUCK at it...I does help a little but I think the "real" factor is missing for me. You can't rotate your field of view, so it like flying through a periscope. I do put some creedence in the "beater" philosophy. Ask youself this one, if you had one you weren't that worried about, and had another in reserve, would you be as timid? The only limitation that the 'beater" would have is it would have to have the same or similar to what you wanted to fly (channels, cyclic response, ect.)

You can get a usb cable for 10 dollars on ebay. Then download FMS and you have a decent sim for $10 HelisimRC is free too it's alittle more realistic for a 450 trex, but has no sound. I used to own G2 but sold it after I got bored with it. I've been messing with helisimrc for hover practice but I have more time flying then I do on the sim.

I got helisimrc it works great the trex thing it can be adjusted to fly realistic and any two stick analog controller will work.

you can get one for $3.50

I have G2 and fly several times a week.
I think it has really helped me. Its definately better than just buying a heli and trying to fly it.
I have to agree with others though... it is just a sim.. not like the real thing... On the sim I'm flying around and even doing some inverted things... but on the real heli... lets just say I can hover real good... but once it starts moving around.. i get nervous... I know I could fly it... but I don't want to break it and have to fix it... that is where the difference comes in... you can't just hit the space bar and after a few crashes I think it makes you a worse pilot... but I'm hanging with it... I'll do it one day... I am getting better and braver...

rcstook if it works for you keep doing it. But a lot of sim flyers here can tell you its best to not do anything on the sim you wouldnt try for real. That way your treating the sim like the real thing.

At least thats what they say I wouldnt know.

I've talked to several people around here and they all tell me to stay ahead of myself on the sim... get good and flying figure eights on the sim before you try it for real...
get good and loops before you try it for real...

etc...

I have to say ... it is working for me...
but the real thing is different...

I tell you, I think the sim will really help me. I am currently learning how to hover in the sim and it is teaching me how to anticipate the helis moves and how to recover from bad moves. More basically than athat it is teaching me fine motor control on the remote. When I first started out I was way to heavy on the sticks and now I can make tiny adjustments easily. Along with those good things, I know it will be very handy in learning the other non-tail orientations. Sure I could have spent the same amount of money on a CX2 and learned most of these things but the upgrade, upkeep and repair costs would have kept coming and fast. Now I get to learn some of this stuff with no additional costs.

Of course I say all of this having never hovered a heli but it sounds good to me.

I have used reflex for a couple of years and Phoenix now and I have to say it's alot of fun trying things that you see the pros doing on the sim... I really don't care for 3D flying but I do find the sim helps keep my flying skills sharp during the cold days in winter.... I have setup several helis to fly like my birds, so to me it's just like flying my own helis all the time....

I wish I could set up my sim like my bird but I have never flown it, so that is not possible at this point. Any have a setup suggestions for G4 to make it more like a king?

I have been using the G4 also, after talking to fender i immedtiately put the settings in for a slight wind and a little larger on gusts and then just work on hovering. Thats all i am working on now, just hovering on the sim with wind effects.

Also for all the RealFlight G3.5/4.0 users, you can download something similar, or close to your heli off the knife edge download forums, at ://www.knifeedge.com/forums/downloads.php

I'm flying the trex 450 v2 off of there, and it's as close as it gets to my belt.

Another Pheonix user here. Like rcstook said, I use it stay one move ahead of my real flying. I like to stick to a mastering a particular move or orientation on the sim. Stick with it until its second nature. Then slowly transition the skills to the HBK2. Don't move on with the sim until I've moved on with the real thing.

Between all the down time waiting for parts and the bad weather, I'm getting behind on my real flying. Currently 1 move behind. I've moved on to backward flight in the sim.

I will say that I don't like to fly the larger helis or planks in the sim. I find it desensitizes my skills to the smaller lighter helis. I usally stick to one of the 450 sized helis and modify the tail to match the King's.

King 2 belt slip!!!

Hello all, Im a newbie also and my new king 2 has the same prob. so i looked at this video on You Tube (2min 35 sec into the vid) honey bee king 2 set-up no.5 (3 min 23 sec)

and saw this guy put a nilon little rod under the belt (like a belt kicker) and it looked like it worked, but then I read BowerR64's reply on this thread: ("I think my problem was i was using the boom to lift the heli with, like a handle. Once i pushed up on the tail the boom shifted and the belt aligned better and tracked ALOT better. It dont have to move much either just a little bit changes alot.
Loosen the 4 screws that clamp the boom to the frame. Move it a little and see if it tracks better, then tighten them back up. Remember this, any hard landings or handeling it a little rough might cause it to track wrong again."

I tried what BowerR64 said and it seems to work but I wiped out the washout assembly yesterday and removed the rotor head so I only have the Main shaft on the chopper (no upper shaft stuff like the main blade clamps, rotor head, etc.). I ran the king 2 up to full throttle, jogged the pitch with the idle up and jogged it on the right stick (pitch and roll) and the belt stayed on?
Will it be accurate if the blades aren't on to give resistance?
Or should I make a belt kicker plus lower the roller guides with washers to fix this once and for all?
Any help would be much appreciated!
