I dont own the 3900. But I read on here the 3800 has more power. I use a 300hdx3800 and 10t pinion thats a lot of headspeed makes the heli really come alive. I started with an 8t and it was very stable easy to fly I would assume that would be around the same headspeed of the 3100 and 11t. And I just got a 2100mah cellpro revolution battery its hard to fit it in the canopy but it will and I get 10min hovers with room to spare and not discharging the pack too low.

haven't you heard of the low speed problems with the 3100, mine chatters and hesitates to run up 'til half throttle, dumping mine

i suck at this, but having the time of my life with it!

Im running the 3800. Real happy with it. All the power you could want. I went straight from that oem brushed garbage to this motor so I dont know about the others. This motor required a little dremel work on the mount but getting that done was not a problem.

My 3100 is a older motor, no low speed problems at all... Dremeling the frame to get the 3800 to fit weakens the the hell out of it!, your just asking for frame failure when your flying!

i had a hdx 3800 for about a year and a half, and a bearing went out so i swapped in a 3100 i bought from jag. in contrast its about 40% less powerful and it needed a 10tooth pinion even to fly for me. the lower head speed forces me to be more aware of the tail when im out side. heres the up side for me, my 10c 1000mha bats that used to get super hot and last like five min. now get barely warm and i get like 8 min of flights. im gonna keep it in till spring and i can fly outside. i replaced my bad hdx3800 with a hdx 4500 its slightly shorter and it has a fan this time.

I wish I was good at this

Oh please, have you done it? The amount removed would hardly fill a thimble for a gnat! Anyway, if your concerned about it just add the spacer other folks are using, then no mods required.

A thimble for a gnat Your right Sarge !! My frame break was a direct result of gluing the motor mount back on the frame after a crash, NOT from the small amount dremeled ! ( I am saluting you sarge)

I currently have the 3900kv motor with a 9T pinion. While i am just learning to fly, i get in the air at half throttle in normal mode and woodies. I also bought the 3800 with a 10T but do not have it up and running yet. using darkhorse the 3900/9t comes out to 2400rpm and the 3800/10T is about 2560rpm.
