does anyone know the size that holds the carb on to an Enya 60X?

Give me a little time to check my Enya 60X and I'll let you know. But the guess of M4 X .75 could be perfect. That's JIS threads.

I think I can get a 4x.75 die at Wholesale tool. I will just run some 4x.70 setscrews thru it. I am putting an OS 60B carb on my 60X. BTW, what was that canopy painted with? It looks nice!!!

Just saw your post....Did you find a heliball that will fit your Enya? If not, I have one you can have, I know it fits, I had it on a 49HH Enya that I had in a Cobra years ago.

Hey Coop, good to see you are still around. Time to dust of those oldies and come to IRCHA this year!!! You should finish the Jet Ranger and bring it!

Yea Alan, I'm still around, been lurking here more lately...I've been out of the helis 3 years now, been thinking it's time to get something in the air again, see if I can still fly. I've got my Bergens, and a ton of GMP stuff, can't sell it, might as well fly it.

Working backwards, I know nothing about the paint. That's a picture from my heli archives, probably "borrowed" from an eBay auction Sorry.

I checked the 60X screws and they are definitely .75 pitch. I wouldn't bother with rethreading M4 x .70, use 8-32 instead. The pitch is very close with only a slightly larger diameter OD.

Unless modifying the engine is "against your religion", just run an 8-32 tap into the case holes. Much easier to do than rethreading screws.

GMPheli (Alan) is a good guy! He's helped me out with several parts for my Cobra restoration project.

Cobra Project

I too am restoring a Cobra. Actually finishing it would be more accurate. I have one that was never totally built and has a brand new OS50 in it. I plan to get it flying and then just use it for hovering and mild flying and maybe some camera work if it is as stable as I hope it will be.
Should be a rather heavy 50 so the wind shouldn't be a problem.
I also would like to throw this out there. Ray's Helicopter book (the old one) is just full of information on this heli and others of the time. If you can find the book get it.

Well thank you Tommy, and HHC I think I will just tap them to 8-32. Thanks,

Man guys I appreciate that help so much. GMP is helping me out with the muffler there coop...I appreciate the offer too! Sounds like we are gonna make a good showing at IRCHA this year. We should be sure to get a group photo. I plan on camping a night or two...and anyone is welcome sharing shade with me. We should have two canopies and plenty of table room and as many parts as I have to bring.
After todays flying I have to dig into my parts box...again...this flying backwards crap is really annoying me.

One of these days I will get it down, maybe. At least is was just a trex 450 so parts are cheap....mostly. And I have most everything. So, there is something else I need to work on now. Just when I get 'em all fixed and flying, I had to go flying....

As for "on topic" here...Cobra is looking nice...with a new canopy in the horizon and thanks to GMP Heli...the muffler issue will now be handled...I am quite well under way.

I really don't know what ever possessed me to visit an antique heli project. I guess it is for appreciation of what "they" went through for me to be able to enjoy this great hobby all modernized. The thought had crossed my mind at one time to refinish this heli and donate it to the museum. But you know...I think making a debut at IRCHA and the other local fly ins I usually attend will be well received and appreciated. I can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed reviving this machine so far.

IRCHA....should we wear bell bottoms...

Thanks much to everyone for their help and support. This has helped me stay on track and I have gotten more done in the last few days then since I have had the machine. By the way...I finally tackled the head and it is reinstalled and all the linkage has been made and attached. I need to find the gyro (MIA) and start on setup. I should be ready for a test hover in a few weeks or less. Its clean and looking pretty good. I hope I can do a good job on the canopy, something that will compliment the machine well. I will post some completed pics here soon. Oh yeah...I got the original fuel tank today, so I will install that in the next day or two.

BTW: How much pos an dneg should I program into the machine?

Wow, this is getting scary close now...I am a little nervous.

Do you all think I will be doing the right thing if I go with wood tail rotors?

With these 2 mods I can get quite a bit of collective without interaction. This is on my Competitor but it will work on a Cobra. I think it is around 18 degrees with a good amount of cyclic. I forget as I did it years ago. The pushrod goes from the elev and air servo to the lever and then to the bellcrank/lever. This creates a parralelogram and eliminates interaction. The 1st Hirobo Eagle used a system very similar. The balls on the sides of the mixing levers in the head allow more collective/cyclic range without binding. The GMP Stork has similar levers, and Yale offered an upgrade.
And I believe most of the interaction was at extreme negative pitch. I think a stock pitch range of 10 to -4 was not to bad, but watch your cyclic at extremes (stick in the corners) Again this was a long tome ago

I was going to ask you about that. My computer died on me last night and Ijust now got backon line to ask, and now...I dont need to. Thanks for the info. For what I am wanting todo with this bird the stock pitch range will be fine.

Pretty much at a stand still waiting for some parts. Thanks to some of you, I am going to be able to get those parts! You guys have been great. I will be posting my progress and pics.

Now, I guess my next dilema is, should I run a a mechanical gyro or something modern. I have a GY240 just sitting here and I also have an older hitec gyro here. So I can go either way. Anyone have any ideas or input? The older gyro would be closer to the old school way of flying. SO I am leaning that way, unless someone has a good reason not to. Any thoughts are surely welcome.
