Just got my Synergy canopy from Canomod today and there seem to be a lot of imperfections. I mean, it looks good overall but when you look close you can see the imperfections. I am not complaining really since they only cost $100.

Anyone else notice this with Canomod? I'm sure they are quite mass produced which would lead to a poorer quality.

I noticed the same thing with a buddy's canopy. Overall good appearance, but some imperfections if you look closely. I thought it was as good as could be expected for 100 bucks.

Canomod Alien canopy

Hey guys,
There is no way i'm lettin this one slide,
After seeing thier add on this site, they have a pic of thier Alien canopy, and this is what you get, (pics of what you will really get)!
Where i come from, this is called bait and switch!
What a crappy paint job, i'm gonna paint True Fire over this one.

Thats crazy man! It barely looks like the one on the site!

The main thing I noticed with my Synergy canopy was that it was a little sloppy on the lines. Looks like the masking job was done a little too fast and maybe pulled off too soon.

Again though, looks great unless you look closely at it and can't complain for $100

I had little spots of overspray and stuff but my real beef is with the fiberglass canopy prep-there wasnt any! The center in the canopy area was actually a big depression and on the one of the two that I got, there was a dry sport where trhe glass hadnt been wetted out. Rather than fill it with filler before piant, they just painted. Like everyone else has said, overall they look good but there isnt any attention to detail. I'm using Canopy-FX now. I havent seen any of thier work but I have a couple of his coming so I can compare side by side. I'm not sure I'll buy another Canomod.

guys, you get what you pay for. They are a higher volume to keep the costs down, so they lack the detail that you might get in a more high end paint job. They are not going to be as nice as DYD, or Canopy-FX, but they cost A LOT less. If you want the best, expect to pay more.

Brian,
You are right, but what most guys overlook is Joe at Canopy FX is not much more expensive. Basically if you can describe it to him he can do it.

Canomod has this going for them:

1. Lots of shops stock the canopies. Instant shipping

2. they are cheap on pricing. Almost as cheap as an Align canopy.

The benefits end there. I have seen some VERY good ones. The volume is so high some "not so good" ones are also sold.

Arizona heli, a happy medium as far as price between canomod and DYD heli, with quality as good as any. He will do any custom work you want.

After spending a week + just trying to get a final response to my request from FX (gave up, disgusted, and told them so), I ordered my own blank canopy and HOK paints to try and duplicate a canopy I saw on AH's site. Then I dropped Bill an email and had a response in less than 2 hours saying he would gladly sell me the graphics I would need to do this, and cheaply I might add. Arizona all the way for any of your needs, what a great guy and site.

I tried to use Canopy FX last summer for a 600n and Synergy canopy. His responses are spotty at best. I also disagree that his stuff is only a little bit more than Canomod. The price I was given last summer for a Synergy canopy was $125 plus the canopy. That's $200 and double the price of the Canomod. I agree the Canomod is not the greatest quality but what do you expect for the $30 difference between a blank Synergy canopy and a painted Canomod.

I guess I have to ask

Does Canomod use the Align stock canopy or do they use the $10 Taiwan knockoff?
Do you get the hardware to mount the canopy?
Will they even entertain a design that thy don't already paint?
If they do do they charge you design time?
Do they use Quality Paint like the US guys use(HOK, PPG)?
Do they use a quality clear? (pollution regs are high over there)

I agree canopies are disposable and they should be price accordingly. They are designed for one thing. To protect your electronics in the event of a crash. Now some people want a $300 paint job and others just want high visibility, a little bling at a good cost. When its all said and done it is almost impossible to compete with the foreign market on price. But the US market offers Quality paint, quality canopies, and flexibility on your designs. Its really up to the person shopping for the canopy. Now I know the answers to all the questions above. I am not saying you should go with one painter over another but assembly line painting is not what I call custom.

thanks

Are the Canomods SCREEN PRINTED? Like the RC car bodies? Seems like they are so they can pump them out.

Thanks.

"His responses are spotty at best." (about canopy-FX)

Agree. E-mail responses is not quick at all.
I was quoted 2 to 3 weeks. Been 7 now and going on to 8. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
