Well today was battery number 2 in my HBK2. I got braver and I learned a few things. First off learning how to fly a heli is stressful. But I didn't break it, so it was a good run. I did have one moment when the heli leaned over left and started to spin around. I just gave it right aileron while throttling down and it set back down nice and easy. But man it had my heart racing. So this leads me into my next question.

When you normally leave the ground to hover, do you have to adjust aileron or do you have the tx trimmed so it happens automatically? And in addition to that question, once you get airborne, does the heli stop leaning left or do you continually have to adjust for it?

Man this is going to be a slow learning process. But I figure the slower I go, the less money I will have to come up with to learn how to hover ... so slow it goes.

At least for me, the heli leans a little during take off and I compensate for it with aileron input. Once in the air it flattens out. I don't even think about it anymore.

When swash was leveled, it would lean to the left and come backwards. I compensated by tilting the swash forward and off to the right. This is done by shortening or lengthening the links from the swash to the servos. I wouldn't worry about at this stage as you will need to be able to hover to see if your swash needs any adjusting. If its really leaning like crazy, I'd make sure your swash is leveled and your trims are centered.

Good advice I wish I had more to add but that sums it up.

You do have to fly the heli all the time not once even for a micro second does it do anything for itself but with practice all this weird stuff going on youll correct for and not even know it it becomes natural.

Thanks guys, that answers it. I think the heli leaned over because I made a fairly abrupt rudder adjustment when it was almost light on the skids and I was not adjusting right stick. In a way it was a good thing because it took me out of my safe place and made me react to something new, and I did ok in bringing it back into control.

Shouldn't you be able to make minor adjustments so that once you are at a hover, no input of rudder, aileron, or elevator is required (providing an HH gyro).

Heck, so far I am still on Batt 1 RADDS on the kithen floor (more sensitive than carpet), monitoring movement at slightly less than half throttle. One thing for sure, it would be nice to have a good TX

I will second that. I keep looking at the 2.4GHz radios but they cost more than my HBK2, so I think I will wait until I can at least hover well.

this has been covered a zillion times...but yes a good TX will make a big difference......if you are in this hobby for the long haul...it should be your first investment........you can also save money by buying barebones kits in the future and not have to keep buying"stock"radios......you can ugrade/change/retire/crash helis....but a good radio can be with you for a long long time

You are of course correct. There are plenty of threads on radios. In factI believe you wrote a great comparison between the Spectrum and the Futaba? Anyway its at least a couple of months off.

I keep looking at the Futaba 6EX. It looks to me like a nice match for a beginner/low budget heli pilot. I guess the only problem with the Futabas is the cost of the RXs. If I wanted to get a small plane, it would cost me $100 to have an additional RX for it.
