Belt CP "Flying" in a Snow Storm

Sorry for the quality - YouTube and the snow puts the focus a little off on the camera.

The ending should make up for it though...

Enjoy!

I'd blame it on the thumbs going numb in the cold

Thanks for sharing and I'm glad it ended up being a light crash. There seems to be some advantage to crashing in the snow. BTW, nice looking canopy. Is that a Trex canopy painted yellow?

Great skills Tutelar, That beast was FAST !!!!At about 45 seconds into the video you did an inverted tail slide and came inches from the ground, AWESOME, if your not crashing your not trying hard enough,IMO,

Thanks. Maybe I will put it down to Numb Thumbs instead of Dumb Thumbs. I'll post my new solution to that tonight...

I put an Align pre-painted canopy on it to enable the batteries to move further forward. Tail heavy + light TP Pro batteries required a little more nose room to get the CG right without adding weight.

BTW, it only looked like inches from the ground. The person taking the video was about 30 vertical feet above me.

Glad you enjoyed the show.

Anyone notice of the plastic in the heli frame/parts gets brittle in cold temps? Might a hard landing in cold temps do damage that wouldn't happen in warm weather? Being a newbie I figure I have my share of hard bumps.

I do get the planks up and running in the cold - but the heli would be a nice change of pace.

It's cold here - but snow is packed and I figure I might try it outside. So far my only flights have been short hovers inside when the wife's not home.

She would beat me soundly if I rotor-tagged the TV or worse, her china cabinet.

The plastic definitely gets brittle, but I have been really impressed with the robustness of the Belt CP parts. I stocked up on a bunch of parts that I haven't been able to break...yet.

My new weapon to fight "Numb Thumbs"...

Made it from an old coat. Works great!

More outside flying on the way!

Thats pretty clever Tutelar. Livin in Canada is obviously making winter flying even more challenging, Its cool you don't let it stop you. You must be somewhat addicted to heli's

They work! I lived in Upper Michigan for awhile and would be out flying in weather that was "stupid cold". There I learned that glow engines get REAL hard to start when it gets 5*F or colder.

My wife made me a "transmitter gloves" and it helped alot with the cold thumbs.

Get a old kids coat - cut a hole and sew in the plastic window. Wal-Mart carrys the plastic (In various thicknesses) on large rolls back where they keep the material and sewing supplies.

Those without 2 gig radios will need to cut a antenna hole too.

Put one of those cheap hand warmers in a pocket and keep your batteries warm for better performance.

Good idea on the kid's jacket. Wish I had thought of that

I put a small pocket on the inside of mine to hold the hand warmer...

Thats a great idea, but i can see it now, i only have girls.

Here comes the big burly bastard, breaks out his fine tuned heli in the freezing cold. And then right before he starts her up, he breaks out a nice bright pink dora the explorer tx-hand warmer. he he he. Its a good thing i am comfortable in my manhood to do just that!.

See your local GoodWill or other thrift store. They'll have thousands of potential "transmitter gloves" in the kids coat section.

Burlyman: I hear you... I have 2 girls who both sew, and a wife who owns 3 sewing machines. Guess who had to make the transmitter mitt...

Make sure you post the video with the pink dora warmer. You will probably start a trend - look how canopy painting has taken off!
