My T-Rex 500 was going good until I had a mechanical issue (lost a swashplate ball). It took a bit to get it back in the air because I was getting the violent swashplate ticks on spoolup. After a lot of head-scratching, I did another teardown and ended up finding both main bearings were toast and even the swashplate bearing was a little notchy. After replacing those, the ticks were gone and it is flying again. Now I'm just trying to get rid of a tail oscillation. I'm willing to buy another SK360 for my T-Rex 600 after I get the 500 back to pre-crash standards.

Regarding takeoffs - after replacing the bearings and swashplate, the swashplate doesn't move until I put an input in (I haven't seen it deflect due to winds yet - I'll probably see that on a windy day). I haven't tried to put cyclic input in until I'm off the ground because it is pretty much second nature now.

I'm fixing to install the SK360 in one of my 90 size electrics, probably one of the Ion X2s. Should work just fine.

hi

after making sure that all your links are set up right and pitches correct(make sure you have at least 10 deg cylic, too),, down load the basic 3d 450 program and send it to the sk360,, make sure the swashplate it moving in the right directions and even up and down,, and it should hover and fly around ok with minor tweeks needed,,, ,, i'm flying with my control rates at 340 and my hiller decay at 150,,bell gain on the dials at 45 and hiller at the dials at 55,, it is a little touchy but super fast,,, think the control rates at around 320 would be better,, ,,,,,, not sure if i'm going to try new settings,, i'm selling my 450 with the unit all set up,,, it is on the classifieds on rr

This thread is about the SK360, not the gyrobot.

I contacted Mike last week, but just for reference Skookum Robotics can be reached at this email: info AT skookumrobotics.com

Cyclic use to pre-flight check is ok before spool up, just avoid it during spool up. Then once the heli has enough rpm to fly it's ok to apply (some) cyclic again. There's no need to wait until the heli lifts off.

Ok. Im gonna pull the trigger on the SK360. Im either going to use it in my 450 or 500. But for my 450, what should I do for the anti-rotation assembly? I just left the washout arms/base on and the centrifugal force seems to keep them level. Is it OK to do this?

Yes using the washout arms/base as an anti-rotation mechanism works well, you just have to lock the washout base in place. Otherwise it could slip off the pins in flight, and the results would be very bad. The best option is to tap a hole in the side for a set screw, dubro has a drill bit + tapper set for a few dollars, your LHS should have it.

There is a doc on the support page of the skookum website that steps through an example conversion of a trex 450, using stock parts.
