Happy Flying now :-)

Well i just removed autotrim and then it stopped drifting :-)
it loops dead on straight now,

Just some tuning with levels and this should be just perfect..
tnx for all help.

Just a note for anyone new to the thread, you may come across mention of a "cold test" way back there. This was to check for a hardware flaw that showed up in some of the first run of the SK360 (units shipped in March of 2008). That test is now obsolete, the problem was entirely fixed by a design tweak and an updated rev of the sensor IC.

Today I made my first flight with a flybarless helicopter using the SK360 gyro.

I have converted a trex 450 with JR DS285 servos and a Spartan 760 gyro for tail. I'm right now using Maniac blades will test Radix later on. Trueblood dampers in the head. I used the how-to guide from Skookumrobotics for help when converting the head on the trex.

First flight I had strapped on a training gear on the trex and I got oscillations. I removed the training gear not really needing it because take off was smooth sailing, no drama at all. Only thing is to not touch cyclic until the heli gets light on the skids as mentioned many times.

Skookum support has been with me all the way from flybarless conversion to parameter adjusting and understanding.

I started out with:
+-10 degrees of cyclic pitch
Bell 40
Hiller 60
Hiller decay 100
damping gains 20/16

I now feel safe to decrease Hiller decay for my flying style. So I will test these settings next:
+-10 degrees of cyclic pitch
Bell 30
Hiller 70
Hiller decay 50
damping gains 20/16

T-Rex 500 flight report

I've finally got a chance to rebuild my T-Rex 500 and fly today. I had the v1.02 firmware loaded, and changed a couple of other things (torque tube conversion, Scorpion 1900 kv motor, new Hitec 5425 servos vs Futaba 9650s, and relocated the SK360 directly below the main shaft), but the two flights I had in almost 100*F were good with nothing weird to report. Flips, rolls, loops, stall turns, and inverted work as normal except a much quicker cyclic response. Someone else noted that I didn't lose any headspeed while doing those things, although since I am using a new motor and always fly with a governor, I don't know if that is much different that before. I do need to tweek my pitch curve to settle out hovering, and perhaps drop my hiller decay down as well - I feel that there is a lot more work maintaining a stationary hover now than when I had a flybar on.

I've attached a screenshot of my settings, if anyone who knows more than me can suggest settings to settle out hovering. Otherwise, I am quite happy with the way it is flying now and hope to get some more air time after the weather cools down a bit.

I received my new sk-360 yesterday and finally got to fly with it. I had to make a few tweaks to the gains as the manual suggest and I used the 3D setup file. I put the system on a 450 and everything work just as good as before (loops, rolls, flips, tic-tocs) accept doing piros. I heard somewhere else that they where also having issues with when you do a piro the heli would wobble. I guess I need to check for interactions.

How to install the sk360 software in a mobile phone / PDA with Windows Mobile 6.1 ?

What are the wires that I need ?

jbdww>...everything work just as good as before...except doing piros.

Yes, piros are the hardest thing for any flybarless system to handle, especially on the smaller helis. This is partly due to phase lag because the servo's aren't perfectly fast - any trim the cyclic gyro is holding has to be spun as fast as the heli does! Things to watch to improve piros are:

1) The heli's balance point should be right under the mainshaft
2) The swash should be level at max positive, zero, and max negative collective pitch (no interaction) Adjust this by changing individual servo travels - servos are not all the same!
3) Faster, digital servos and a no-slop swash
4) Adjust the tail-drag compensation. This is explained in the manual under "advanced tuning".

>How to install the sk360 software in a mobile phone / PDA with Windows Mobile 6.1 ?

I honestly have no idea if that will work, the software is designed for W2K/XP/Vista. If you have a USB port, and a .net runtime installed on the phone/pda, then it might work?

renelu> I've attached a screenshot of my settings, if anyone who knows more than me can suggest settings to settle out hovering...

Sorry for the late reply. I notice you have "disable gain dials" set so the gain values on the advanced tab are used directly. You might be able to get the hiller gain a little higher, I'd expect 55% or more. Also, with digital servos the damping gains can probably also be set higher. Maybe try 22/18 to start.

Re the hiller decay, if you're mostly doing sport flying you will get a more stable hover if it's lower, I've flown as low as 20% with safe take offs. But if you do hard 3D then you probably don't want it too low, or you can get stutters after 3 or 4 tick tocks in a row.

I would like to install the sk360 software inside my PDA like the software for DS760 gyros, next picture
First I must install the software 1.04 in my PC but after how can I transfer this soft to the PDA ?
I think, is necessary a diferent software for PDA ( like DS760 mobile phone software ) because it haves windows mobile
How to do it ?
I sold my laptop one year ago and now I want to program my sk360 in my PDA and is easier to transport anywhere.
This special soft will be available soon to download from the skookum´s site ?

Well...that's a great ad for Spartan :-) but unfortunately the feature doesn't exist yet for the SK360. If anything we'll probably come out with an LCD terminal instead, because it will cost the customer about half as much and work for more people.

I received today my SK360, I hope that this LCD display will be cheaper but is not the best solution for the next generation.

Hahaha, that is an add from Spartan. That picture is off their website. For a minute I thought that was Andika's setup.

The bluetooth link is 100+ bucks and still requires Bill Gates to "control" it. No thanks.

I would prefer a dedicated, proprietary, plug and play interface to make quick adjustments when necessary... AKA the LCD setup you are considering.

Of course, I say that, but I haven't made any setup changes is over 40 flights...

So what is the update for lately? Anymore issues with peoples helis? I am interested in seeing if all the bugs have been worked out, because I am looking to trying out flybarless systems and I am new to the concept.

Same here, I had one of the first SK360s and ended up returning it. If the bugs have been worked out, I'd buy another one. How about flight reports? How is it doing on takeoff, do you still have to keep your hand off the stick? How about the violent pitching on takeoff? After the problems I had, I bought a V-bar, and haven't had any problems with it. I'd love to move my V-bar to another heli and put somethign less expensive in my 600N.

I put it on my 450 and had not issues on takeoff. I used the 3D setup file to start with. The only thing I had to work on was getting all of the interactions out, and the bird fly’s just as good as before if not better. I am still using analog servos so I am not getting the most out of my system.
What I would like to know is how this is working out on a 600N.
