Yeah I know, I'm well past the point of no return with the current HBK2 as it is. Started with the infamous Blade CP Pro and dumped bucket loads of $ into that money pit just to get it fly, the HBK at least responds well to cash infusions. I've still got the Blade, now converted to a belt drive tail so it will at least fly reasonably consistant, not that I use it much anymore. Also built a hybrid Compy 300/HDX 300. Nice CF frame bought for $25 from Hong Kong and almost a keeper, the downfall being the heavy HDX aluminum head assembly sitting high on a 3mm mainshaft. Got tired of bending mainshafts if the balance got a bit off, forget about any attempts at anything 3D, strain would be way too much for the tiny mainshaft.
The HBK by comparison has been a fabulous little heli. Is it perfect? No, but show me any size RC heli that is. At least with a bit of careful setup and select upgrades it flys as consistant as my Trex 450 SE and I don't have to drive to the flying field to have fun with it. Indoors for winter fun flys it simply can't be beat in my opinion.
If I could buy a barebones CF frame like I did with my original HBK I'd be all over it. As it is, all I need is the CF frame and alloy bearing blocks to have essentially the same thing once its installed on what I already have. If Xtreme doesn't release theirs soon, I may go out in the garage and start making pieces on the mill for my own version of a CF HBK2
I learned to fly on a Trex, I learned to crash on a Blade CP... |
