I am interested in getting my downlinked video footage, 2.4 straight into my laptop computer. I have seen several people do this but I have no/little experience in doing so.

Ideally I would like to use the larger screen on the laptop to view the downlink and possiably be able to use a frame grabber to grab still images off the video. I suspect that they will not be very hight quality but for this application they do not need to be.

I also would like to have several wireless cameras on board, with some kind of switch so that I do not have to have power and a transmitter for each camera. Some kind of switch that not only switchs different cameras but also activates the power for each as well. I would like several different POV's but am worling with payload issues.

Any ideas, I would/am most grateful for your input?

I use a product by Dazzle that accepts NTSC video and sound inputs and connects to my laptop USB port. I can't get really large screens, but I can get streaming video at the field. For $70 it is hard to beat at the price point.

Depending what type of computer you have it is very possible. You need a computer with a video input. Or you can use a wireless internet camera such as the D-link dcs 1000w. Which you would need a wireless router and network card for your computer. if it is a laptop and you have a type-2 slot there might be a video input card for your computer. Hope this helps.

I think these guys have beat me to it, but there are basically two ways.

1) Get a DIGITAL VIDEO BRIDGE (such as the Dazzle unit) and connect any RCA video output to your laptop via USB

2) Upgrade your computer's video card to one that has RCA inputs.

I've been using the USB port on my laptop and I think its a terrible workaround.
If I could, I would get a converter box or a video card that accepts RCA plugs like the previous post says.
Sony makes a converter and so does Dazzle. The converter has RCA in and Firewire out to the computer. It requires power and comes with an AC adapter, I think, but could be easily adapted to 12 volt dc.
The good thing about firewire is, you can capture and/or view your video in a large window (via Adobe premiere). The captured video is compressed in the DV format. That is about 1 gig per 5 minutes of video. DV format is good quality but still compression is 5:1. Once you capture your footage you can either store the data on your enormous harddrive or burn it to DVD. You could also use Premiere's mpeg encoder and burn to cd or DVD with converted mpeg video.

So, I say firewire in is better. 720x480 NTSC DV format with a good camera would be great.
To switch the camera source and power for each camera. I'm not sure but there is most certainly a circuit that could be designed for such a thing.

Flyboy, could you help me with something - what airbourne Video TX/RX setup are you using (I'm guessing to great effect) - I just got the TRV-950 and this is puting on pressure to do a better job with the downlink than I have so far managed. Thx.

I am using a GFT-2400 from www.Polarisusa.com I have also had great luck with www.startek.tv Fred at the later has been of great help.
I understand that Monte at www.wirelessvideocameras.com is one if not the industry standard.

I hope that your project is coming along nicely. Sorry for the lack of input, I have been sidetracked by a project.
