| Hey guys, Johnny just told me about this thread. I'm the guy with the raptor 30 with the white canopy. And the kids. You'll know me next sunday cause I'll be the guy with the new trex 600 nitro pro and the big fat grin to boot. I had to sell my cp pro, cx2 and my raptor in order to get it but oh so worth it.
Here's my sad story though, get a towel for your tears ready. A lesson in what not to do. I thought I'd fire up the new heli and hear it run although I had no rotor blades on yet, just tail blades. I for whatever reason spent more time than usual to make sure I had a good grip on the rotor head in case of a hot start, which thankfully I did because I did indeed have a hot start, and in the ensuing commotion eventually figured out that if I pull the fuel line the the motor will stop. Turns out I had the throttle servo reversed! Idiot, I checked that three times while building it too and was positive I had it right. Anyhow the clutch disintegrated all the way to the metal on the clutch housing. So that sucked but wait there's more. I in my infinite wisdom decided it would be great to hear that engine rev again, My old raptor engine sucked in that it had no pop, very slow to rev, so anyhow, i'm just a little to excited, after all, my heart was still racing after the hot start. So I start her up and she's idling, I am squatting right next to the heli which is on my wet deck outside. I rev the engine with a burntout clutch. Long story long, the clutch grabs on the metal, the tail spins on the wet deck and the tail blades smack my leg. Nice carbon fiber blades = cut jeans and a nice fleshy gash (ok so I'm being a wimp, the "gash" is a half inch cut). The "gash" on my calf could have been worse, turns out I stripped the tail gears on the heli end of the boom. Had the gears held up, my leg would have suffered more damage for sure. Had I had rotor blades on the heli I wouldn't have been close so to the heli, it just didn't occur to me that the tail would swing around. I did have the gyro hooked up but not setup. I'm thinking its algorithms were not correct do to the fact that it had no rotor blade torque to counter therefore it over compensated. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Well thats my story for the day, hopefully after I get the clutch and new gears in I won't crash it while dialing the rest of it in and I'll see you guys sunday.........weather permitting.
peace out, mike |
