SALT LAKE CITY (March 12) - Elizabeth Smart, the 15-year-old girl who vanished from her bedroom nine months ago, was found alive Wednesday walking down a suburban Salt Lake City street with a drifter who had once done work at the family's home. The man was taken into custody and the teenager was whisked away for a long-awaited reunion with her jubilant family.

The Salt Lake City police department have said that this is definitly a kidnapping and not a runaway or anything else.
The first reports out were that Elizabeth was taken into the mountains after she was abducted for a couple of weeks and then they traveled around the country, but the police have been very reluctant to divulge any real information because it is part of their case and dont want to damage it in any way so no one really knows what really went on.
The group was spotted less than a month after the dudes composite was released.
It was a really good and happy surprise to find out that not only was she alive and well but right here in Salt Lake City.

As a father,
that is one case I would be very pro Death penalty. For what he put that family through, he should be made to pay very dearly. Hopefully, he will be forced to become someones "girlfriend" in jail.

Ya know if Mr. Smart were offered the opportunity I seriously doubt he would do anything to him, he just doesnt seem to be that kind of person.
He wants justice but isnt out to waste him himself.

I'm happy for the Smart family, it is a great thing to have their daughter back.

I am sure that the system will take care of Emmanuel to its fullest extent.

I just hope the media will give Elizabeth some room. She needs some peace, counseling, and her family to bring her back mentally and emotionally.

The media here in utah hasnt stopped about it, if one tiny new thing develops they have to break into the show that on and spend 30-40 minutes exploring it.and even more if it has anything to do with Elizabeth herself.

They find her 20 miles from her home, walking down the street unrestrained, wearing a wig, and when questioned denied being her. Seems that if she was truly being held against her will she could have made a break for it at any time. Something to think about....

Dave your right, was waiting on someone to step up! These weak reporters are just not asking the hard questions. We got dad all over the news crying like my 4 month old. I know he's happy, but I also know how upset and angry I'd be if that little piece of highway trash took my little girl. They keep calling him a drifter? I guess the fitting name of homeless is now out of the picture right? I'm thinking she went off and had a baby. Think about it, parents are devout mormans, dad's rich, pays the scum six figures to do away with his daughter until she has had the baby. Tells the police that BS story, not thinking it would receive national attention. Now all of a sudden, she's back? It does not add up. Look a little deeper, people need to think more criticly, the world is not all full of roses as some would think....

That seems a little absurd to me, youre suggesting that they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to mabye even millions on keeping their daughter in the news and in the publics eye so that they could hide their daughters pregnancy from whom? The public?
Why did Mr Smart go to congress pushing for a nationwide amber alert for lost children and is still pushin HARD to get it through congress?
When all they needed to do was homeschool her for nine months and give the baby up for adoption!
C'MON I agree the world isnt full of roses but sometimes good things happen too.
Just because it's unlikely doesn't mean it wont happen.
