Got it.

I got my Little bird Yesterday. I am taking it apart tonight, and will figure out what I need to dremel. I was happily surprised at the quality.

Anyone clear coat this fuse or fly it as is? How is it holding up to nitro??

Hey,

I clear coated mine with Top Flite LustreKote Flat Clear TOPR7199 it holds up fine just clean it after every flight. I'm redoing my Rescue version and I am making a fiberglass Oil Pan. It will work kind of like a simple funnel under the engine to catch any oil the drops out of the engine and funnel it out of the bottom of the fuselage. You should also make a cooling schroud extension and vector the hot air out the bottom also. Here are some pics of the my little bird with Raptor 30 mechanics

Good luck with it.

cut a vent hole in mine....works really nice. The seats act like a duct.
very effective.

Thanks

Thanks for the pics. Stripped out the boom last night with pliers then dremeled the rest. Stripped everything out of the heli except cockpit so far. I will dremel off locations that people have posted in pics. Removed my hawk gear and tailboom. I had a CF servo mount I can't use any longer, along with the braces, and a custom made extension to the nose to hold my radio equipment had to be removed.

This is a fast project, so far it looks very easy to do. Not too many steps left.

My photos of the dremelled fuselage show the initial attemp. After fitting the mechs, I had to dremel a bit more.

The photos do not show it, but I attached foam (pick and pluck stuff) in between the rear cockpit bulkhead and forward fuselage bulkhead. This tightened up the cockpit to the frame.

I gooped the windscreen in place, as well as the antenna, and the top two rearmost antennas. I also ended up gooping the forward bulkhead into the fuselage. This is removeable if I ever have to take it down, yet prevents vibration and is more secure.

After about 3/4 gallon, I have verified that the stock gear are plenty strong. No need for supports. Just dont be "plunking her down". This is scale flying afterall...touchdown like you would in the real thing.

I had to add 1.5 oz in the nose to balance mine. One very nice thing about this airframe is you can break it down and extract the mechs without disassembling any mechs. You RC mfgs ought to learn from this.

Got my new mechs in today for my conversion. Do you fly over at Markham??? I go up there once in a while but mostly fly here im Miami. I would love to see your AH-6. I'll probably get started this weekend with mine.

yeah I fly at Markham...but it's getting tiresome to go up there. There's a bunch of guys who don't fly, but they sit under the pavillion telling everyone else what to do. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

I live in Pembroke Pines but work in Miami. Where do you guys fly?

as far as the boom goes..check my gallery. I used foam inserts and plastic cable ties. They kinda blend in with the black AH-6. I'm not sure what I would use on the green one.

Seaviper,

We get together every Sunday morning right off the Turnpike on the 106th street exit (NW) just before the Okechobee toll as you are heading south. We call it the "Mud Pit". You can see the fields on your left side as you are getting to the Toll booth. There is a bunch of other guys that fly on Okechobee Rd and 138th Ave. I personally dont go to 138th, too many plane guys and no control.

Just added a custom built lighting system to the AH-6. I know it's not scale, but it looks cool.

The system is controlled by a PIC microcontroller and is fully programmable. Current setup is 2 nav lights, beacon, and 3 strobes.

If I have time I plan on finishing a radio controlled (pwm switched) version.

the AH-6 was lost yesterday.

Due to low light conditions and pilot disorientation. I completed a low level roll (not intentional) and was pitched up and full power recovering when the skids hit the water.

The Ah-6 now rests 40ft below the surface.

Say it isn't so!! Man, sorry to hear that. If you aren't a diver, you can get it back with a fishing pole and a large treble hook. Fish it out man!! It will be salvageable!

Oh No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the guys at Markham I think his name is Luis like me, is a diver and he offered to rescue a buds heli once. He flys a Raptor 50 with a stars and stripes canopy. Since it is in a lake, the electronics won't get too messed up, try to save it!!!!!!!

My buddy Clintstone took his "Aqua" Fury for a swim last September or so and after about ten minutes submerged...everything came up fine and still works.

Hey Seaviper,

That totally sucks, nothings worse than a total heli lose electronics and all. Don't give up on it your next one will be even better, I've done 4 and each one is better than the last. Try the JR Venture for your next conversion it fits like a glove with a little amputation here and there. I have 3 Police versions still in the box if your interested in getting one let me know, you just have to paint them black.
Hey Jetranger,
A Nexus will fit but I have never done one I use the JR Venture.
