Just saw it on TV in UK. The TV clip suggested maybe there was a radio glitch. Anyone know if he was using 2.4GHz or PCM?

Although the signs forbid RC model, it looked about the safest place to fly in HK.

Sends a chill up your spine knowing it could happen to anyone.

Here is the English version. The "suspect" from the picture is a Evo 90.

According to the news, one possible cause could be that one of the switches is flipped (idle-up?) accidentally when passing the radio transmitter.

but if it were at idle then hit idle up and it punches it in neg down not up so probally the throtte stick on the neck strap and or idle up but either way no other hands near the tx but urs and this can be avoided.

They probably did not have the throttle hold switch configured or set to on especially for such the big bird. What a very "expensive" lesson to learn if that is the case.

Wishing a healthy recovery to the people involved in this accident. Surprising that this doesn't happen more often. Especially in all of these videos we see these days of people flying 3d so close to themselves and others.

There could be a host of errors ,including say throttle arm suddenly loosening up and going full throttle ,interference ,loose ball limk on throttle arm etc.
HK is a very difficult place to fly helis .People used to crawl under fences of construction sites and fly over dirt .Others used to fly during the night adjacent to main roads using stadium flood lights. The only other options are designated flying fields ,which are quite far from the city and require an entrance member fee and monthly fees (hefty) and once there ,you got all types of people from total beginners to the better flyers and you only wrote down your frequency on paper. Also a lot of people don't have cars ,so for those yearning to start in the hobby ,meant flying illegally and at unusual times of day often close to their high rise apartments eg the small park .Also a lot of people really only have good hovering skills ,and high circuits are out of the question ,due to the limited chances to develop themselves. Therefore they often hover very close to them (thinking they're good) ,say 1-1.5 m and often above their heads .
I know this from first hand experience and not bullsh***ing.
So I am not at all surprised at the accident.I wish the man's speedy recovery .

My transmitter is my transmitter. I don't move it around or give it to anybody or leave unattended.

I remember when I was starting up I had a stupid accident while taking my transmitter from the hands of my brother and accidentally moving throttle lever, so the heli just flew up and crashed, practically self destructed.

Since then, I have near religious attention to my transmitter. I carry it with me very accurately and give to nobody, no matter how experienced or not. Neither will I give my heli to anybody, or fly near me. I fly it above. I minimize the risk this way, and it works great. I protect my legs with something, if I have a carrying bag with me, it stands right before me on spool up. I had a heli self-destruct on spool up and hit my leg last year. I check connectors, and bolts, and if something doesn't feel right, I go home.

Even if the heli goes bezerk if my tx is not in my hands I have absolutely no chance of getting back control. And buttons are sensitive, you can't just "accidentally" push them and then push them back, expecting for the things to return the way they were.

Another point of interest is that the accident happened in an uncontrolled field.

I don't think the location had anything to do with it whatsoever. There were two guys, both directly involved with the helicopter. The two guys could have been anywhere when the accident happened, itts not like the victim was some passer-by.

My point is that "an authorised field" offers no protection at all, and it would be folly to assume there is some magic mantle of safety which protects those operating from an authorised field....

He recovered O.K and whispered to those Hobby friends who visited him that the nurse looking after him is very beautiful.
He is optimistic and strong because his left side of the body is still unmobilized. He may need a longer time to recover.
Wish him well.

Reminds me of Full metal Jacket, "This is my transmitter, there are many like it but this one is mine"

Glad to hear he is on the mend.
